I want a Christmas without any bad luck or sickness. Every holiday of my life (except this past Thanksgiving), I’ve been really sick or injured. It’s like a curse. Last week though, everyone else was sick. Mr. Congo was super sick and has beenbedridden with Sciatica. Also, in the 3 years we’ve lived in this condo, we’ve had nothing but bad luck. Things are breaking, money is tight, illness is at every turn. I just want to make it throught the Christmas season without anything bad happening to anyone in my family. I don’t think it’s going to happen though, as I’m off to take Mr. Congo to get an MRI. Happy Holidays ☹ ---

I’m tired of people “reminding” me that Christmas “is about the birth of our savior.” No, it’s not. It’s a festive holiday right smack in the middle of the coldest, darkest days of winter. That’s why it’s fun. It was so fun that the church couldn’t stamp it out, so they decided to co-opt it, instead. I heard somebody on this board use the word “Giftmas.” I’m sure it was meant sarcastically, but it suits me just fine. ---

And in Ohio, I see a lot of the “Jesus is the Reason for the Season!” lighted displays. Ack! My poor mother has to hear the Mithras rant–every time. Look, I like feast days. I like hanging out with my family. I really like buying presents. I even like Christmas songs (even though I am a happy heathen). We have a very pretty tree, (which I happen to think is a mite Pagan) and cookies and wreaths and I enjoy all of it–but I would enjoy it more without the cutesy “reminders.” You want to celebrate the birth of your God? Groovy. Go for it. But stop shoving it down my throat–esp. when you are ignorant to the history presented by **bluethree**. BTW, thanks for bringing this up. I thought about posting it earlier, but was trying to craft something less flamable than my first idea. You said it better than I could have. ---

I want to not have to work until X p.m. on Christmas Eve (where X is is an unspecified but almost certainly quite large number), and again on bloody Boxing Day. This may be normal for people on the left side of the Altlantic, but here in England all of my friends have about 4 days off!
