My mom's cat won't stop meowing and it's driving me crazy

What, a “terrible, indescribable thing vaster than any subway train—a shapeless congeries of protoplasmic bubbles, faintly self-luminous, and with myriads of temporary eyes forming and un-forming”?

I’ve got a cat (similar in color to yours) that does a similar yowling thing. I have manager on a few occasions to sneak up on her while doing it, and she had a balled up pair of socks or some kind of toy in her mouth. It’s my guess that she’s proud of her kill and wants everyone to be aware of it.

Yep. We had one that started howling while wandering the house constantly when he was twelve, and the vet thought the same. The one trick we had to make him stop was to get him to lie down - he only howled while standing - so we picked him up and put him back down again a lot. It went on for the remaining two years of his life and no one ended up completely insane, so I think the OP will be okay too.

I don’t think so; if so, there’d be no cats left.

She looks kind of like my cat. We have two calico/tortoiseshell cats that get awfully mouthy sometimes. I think it is just an attention thing - my cat does it when she wants me to play with her, and my husband’s cat does it all the damned time. Let me share a lovely thing that she does; she howls and whines to get picked up and carried around, then she starts biting and scratching when she wants down. She gets her claws stuck in your shirt (or arm; she’s not fussy), and starts biting when you try to disengage them so she can get down like she’s demanding because she doesn’t like her paws being touched. Such a nice kitty.

Being in a particularly bloodyminded mood today, I was about to suggest shooting the cat to make it stay still - and perhaps your mom as well, if her response doesn’t meet with your approval.

But I’ll refrain. I actually love cats, and most moms. It’s people in general I’d like to shoot.
