With a little dog, get a cat.
Yeah, 33# is big, 40 # is huge. There aint no 80# coyotes
wiki- The largest coyote on record was a male killed near Afton, Wyoming, on November 19, 1937, which measured 1.5 m (4 ft 11 in) from nose to tail, and weighed 34 kg (75 lb).
Mind you- there are reports of larger ones, so I wouldnt think a 40# one is impossible.
Maybe a coydog?
where does the Op live?
I saw someone walking their medium-sized dog (still several times the size of a cat, though, not even counting the adjacent human) when a bunch of cats decided they felt threatened or something and three or four of them peeled off to attack the poor dog without provocation. I took some claws to the face (impressive leaping action there!) and leg trying, in vain, to separate them. After the dog was gone, the still-agitated moggies fell to fighting each other.
Feral cats can be quite mean and vicious.
Boy those scratches can hurt. And cause infection.
Cat Scratch Fever is a real thing and not just a Ted Nugent song (I know someone who got it from their cat after a minor swipe from the cat). She was in the hospital for a week IIRC.
Yep. I’ve had it.
And cat bites tend to be much more infectious than dog bites.
Oh god yes. My cousin nearly lost most of her hand from a cat bite. It was a horrible recovery, but it was a recovery.
Cleveland, Ohio area. There have been a couple of stories on the news in the past several months. Here is one that show 3 coyotes in a back yard at 0:30.
Those were very big Coyotes. I must say.
I would’ve guessed at least 60lbs.
