I like the show. And I was glad the second season DVD came out this week. But did I really need to watch seven episodes in a row last night? It was like eating potato chips. I kept thinking “just one more and then I’ll stop.” ---

I like to do that at night, too, but not necessarily with Castle. When I’m too tired to game, don’t feel like reading, am fighting the idea that I have to waste my time sleeping at ALL \ then I love running through seasons of shows that I otherwise don’t make time for as they air. ---

Season 3’s started out well too. Nathan Fillion’s on Twitter and seems to be just like Castle, which is a good thing. ---

Did Castle get better after the first two episodes? I tried watching the show. I really, really wanted to like it. I’m a big Nathan Fillion Fan (he’s a hometown boy), I’m a big Firefly fan, I loved Dr. Horrible. But I just couldn’t get into it. It was just a touch too hackneyed, the writing wasn’t quite clever enough, etc. I had a series recording on my DVR, but after watching two or three episodes, I always found a reason to watch something else until I had about seven episodes queued up, and I finally realized I wasn’t going to watch the show and deleted it. Should I give it a second chance? ---

I actually thought it started strong out of the gate, especially episode two - ‘Nanny McDead’ - but then, I’m a sucker for nearly anything Sarah Drew shows up in. 😃 The writing and the plot mysteries did mature somewhat by the start of the second season, I thought. That was also the point where I switched it up in my viewing habits - I’d recorded the first season without watching it, and caught up over summer 2009 on my pocket video player. As of season 2, the show got a spot on my ‘watch from DVR within a week at the latest’ list. 😃 I do recommend giving it another chance. ---

My opinion is that if you didn’t like the series at its beginning, you’re not going to like it now. It pretty much hit its mark right away. ---

It’s not high-quality, thought-provoking drama, but it’s good cheesy fun with some amusing lines and storylines that aren’t _too_ obvious. IOW, it’s no Dexter, but it’s no Murder She Wrote either. The characters are all very likeable; the sub-characters get a little more airtime in later episodes, and that helps. ---

And the in-jokes are both subtle and sneaky. It really pays attention and rewards the careful, literate watcher. ---

It’s a formulaic murder mystery show. It hits all the tropes on the mark. But it’s also a very witty and charming show. All the principal characters are strong and likable. It’s a worthy show and I’m glad it didn’t get canned in season one. And dear god, Stana Katic is hot. The show did set the tone for the actual murder mysteries early on, yes, but the characters have done a surprising job of evolving and maturing, even taking into account the relationship resets during each season transition. Nathan Fillion turns from a charismatic douchebag into a genuinely fun and relaxed guy. ---

This may be a little unusual, but my favourite part of _Castle_’s evolution is how Ryan and Esposito have developed into such fun characters, and the boys club they and Castle form is just adorable to watch. Plus, Stana Katic is hot. ---

The actors really make the most out of their characters, too, like making something as banal as ‘moving from one side of the room to the other’ amusing and particular to their character.
