I have to say I would talk to a cop about this. I know it’s not nearly enough to prosecute someone on, but it’s possible he has been accused of rape in the past. And possibly not prosecuted because of the lack of supporting evidence.
I couldn’t tell you if testimony about a discussion like that would convince a prosecutor to file charges, but if he is already on the cop’s radar then you’ve just made him a much bigger blip.

We have the right to call another poster on their behavior, even in MPSIMS. If you look more carefully at my wording, it was the action I was addressing, not the person of the poster. I gave the benefit of the doubt, instead of knee jerking and taking what the poster wrote at face value and going from there. It was in very poor taste, and we are within our rights to say we find it so.
Back on topic, I surely would ask a police officer what they thought you should do in regards to that incident. He might not yet be on the police radar, and perhaps there are some unsolved incidents that such information might help answer.

People like him probably move from job to job, and maybe house to house frequently. It is not likely that he stays only in his neighborhood, and any woman that is vunerable that crosses his path is in danger.

Is this “Bill” married? The reason I ask, is that I often find that guys who make big brags or boasts about what they would like to do with women are often so incapable of even talking to a woman without pissing on themselves that they have never had any real interaction with the opposite sex.
Just another thought on what may be going on in his tiny little head …
If he is married, I wonder what his relationship with his wife is like.

Speaking as woman who while not terribly paranoid is still well aware there are Bad People out there in the world…
I’d say, tell the women you love, the women you care about, and just pretty much any woman in general that Bill has little or no regard for women and that you believe he’d take advantage of a woman or situation if he thought he could get away with it. Be careful around him, particuarly if you’re alone with him. Most women will get the hint
I have no doubt there are men who not only say what Bill says, but also fully believe what Bill says. The last one who put me in the “rapeable” category got a broken leg for his trouble, and at that, he was lucky because my original target was a bit higher and more centrally located. So perhaps there is a fourth category, “fights back”. Anyhow, I’d just as soon not have to deal with that sitaution ever again, thank you very much.
I will add to the chorus of folks praising the rest of the men for 1) not joining in with Bill’s attitude and 2) telling Bill his attitude was unacceptable in civilized society. As another poster pointed out, there’s a distinction between lust/fantasy and actual actions. The rest of you prove my often repeated point that _most_ men are decent human beings who respect women as fellow human beings.

I’m not a lawyer, but would it be libel if you were simply quoting him ? If you say that Bill claims the only reason not to rape a woman is fear of getting caught, I don’t see how that’s libel if that’s what he has openly said.

I, too, would also like this helpful information; I mean, I’d be horrified to find out someone I knew lived in the same metropolitan area as a possible potential rapist I heard about on a message board.

Somehow, I doubt this clown is married. As you pointed out, he probably has little interaction with women. In fact, I’d wager that he’s probably never touched a woman without either paying for it or forcing it.

A jerk like him will call attention to himself, whether he speaks from intent or from bravado.
What concerns me even more are the men who move undetected amongst our lives everyday, who do not speak these thoughts out loud, but believe them just the same.
Thank you, Skald, for sharing with us your and your companions’ shock and distaste for his words. Clearly, he expected you to agree with him, and your denial of approval is a baby-step in the right direction. Silence is often interpreted as implied approval, which emboldens men like him.

**Skald** , good on you and the other guys for calling him on it.
Without wishing to come across as being a sanctimonious pratt, I have to admit that I’m a little surprised that any Dopers would try to make light of the situation by replicating “Bill”'s viewpoint in an attempt at humor, especially after **Anastaseon** ’s [post](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=7696847&postcount=8) in which she made it clear that such behavior had a major effect upon her earlier view of men in general. There may be humor to be mined in even the darkest of circumstances, but once a Doper has posted a personal story that makes it clear that it’s not a time for joking, I think that should be respected.
Besides, if you’re going to make jokes, a certain amount of wit should be a prerequisite. Merely channeling the OP’s “Bill” doesn’t qualify, IMHO.
I guess this subject hits me close to home: I’ve seen way too much damage caused by boorish male behavior, and as a male who **doesn’t** think that way, it pisses me off no end. You don’t solve the problem by making light of the (very real) problem. So, once again, kudos to **Skald** and the gang for calling it out.
