After many, MANY years of sleeping on homemade pallets, futons, or mattress sets previously owned by persons unknown, I finally bought my very own mattress and box spring. My old mattress had been ominously listing to one side, the questionable material inside giving up the ghost. So, $661 and a few days later, my sparkly new _King Koil Romance Euro-Box Plush Top_ set arrived, and the oldy moldy was carted away.

Now, as I was concerned about the height of the bed at the time of purchase, I opted for the slimline box spring (basically, one that is half-height). I also opted for the second plush top to be removed (the mattress was reversible). But even with these measures, my headboard effectively disappeared. This bed is high.

I have to _climb_ to get on top. I am 5’9" tall, and when I sit on this behemoth, my feet are a good 6" off the ground. I sit there, giggling and swinging my legs like a 5-year old. Good lord, if I had ordered it as was, I would have had to buy a ladder (and oxygen as well, I suspect). When did mattresses grow so big? And what are they feeding them??

And, of course, my fitted sheets no longer do. But at least I’m getting a good nights sleep and ending the day with a chuckle atop my Everest. 🙂

If the peas that your evil stepmother secretly hid under the mattress gives you bruises, give me a call.
Peas. They feed them peas now. Little baby crib mattresses grow into big, strong King Koil mattresses. You ever been to a mattress farm?

Congratulations on the new bed!

At the not-short height for a woman of 5’8", I had a similar, unexpected experience visiting friends recently. It was getting late, finally time to make my way to bed. I hadn’t paid too much attention earlier in the day when taking my luggage into the guestroom. But there I was, round midnight or so, looking at the bed, and I suddenly realized how tall it was. Tired after a really long and awful trip, and a long and happy evening, I couldn’t do anything other than pull my suitcase over to the bed, and use it as a step to the bed. I felt about 5 years old as well. I confessed the climbing sheepishly the next morning. My friends have now purchased a small set of steps. 🙂

**Horseflesh** , thanks to the generous plush top, a box of frozen Birdseyes could be crammed underneath and I’d still be all comfy and a snorin’ (my princess days are long over).

Welcome to the boards, **PastAllReason**!
