Nice analogy. I will now cut them in half before I compost them.
You could mail them to me, and I could mail back an equal weight of grass clippings, leaves, and rotten vegetables.
I have an orchid that re-bloomed. I’m really not sure what I did to be so blessed by the gods of the elusive orchid flowers, because I also have two others that have done nothing since their original greenhouse-forced flowers faded away.
I keep the orchids in the front, south facing window of my living room along with all the other plants I have that just won’t die. With no a/c, the house is hot in the summer and in the winter, because I am too cheap to have the heat on high, it is quite cool. In between, I think, is the time when the plant sneaks out a stem towards the window and one day I joyously discover the flowers hidden amongst all the other greenery. I think it may be that as the weather changes from summer to fall and the temperatures between day and night fluctuate greatly, it hits the sweet spot of orchid happiness. As far as the other two orchid slackers, I’m not sure what to do to get them to step up and throw out some flowers, aside from wishing and hoping.
Cool.
They do seem influenced by the changing of the seasons, all though they are tropical, and I wouldn’t think that would matter.
Obviously, from your experience and mine, it does.
Maybe I’ll stick mine in front of the A/C vent for a while to teach it who’s boss.
