We have gorgeous flowerbeds in zone 4. Long live iris, peonies, bee balm, and much more. We just don’t have heliotrope… To be fair, I would ideally live in zone 6 now that there are lilacs that can handle the warmer temps. That way, I could grow more herbs.
Not Fedco or High Mowing or Johnny’s or (plants not seed) St. Lawrence. Or some others; that’s just who comes to the top of my mind. You’re probably getting catalogs either from companies based in the South, or from ones based nowhere in particular.
Johnny’s is a good one. I hadn’t heard of the others. A couple of my usual companies bellied up. I blame myself for moving to a condo, but my back can’t handle much gardening any more.
Try Pinetree. Maine-based, little packs for people with little space; some of the varieties do well in pots.
(I don’t work for any of the companies I’m naming here. I have ordered from all of them at one point or another.)
This looks promising. Thank you!
I took out all the grass in my yard in zone 3/4 and have it all in flower and vegetable garden beds at this point. My peeve is plants that don’t have a zone listed on them. The first thing I look at is not the height or colour or sun requirements - it’s the zone.
