Beauty is indeed in the eye of the beholder. I am one of those people who would love to own a Citroen DS19. A cabriolet would be to die for. [Here’s](http://www.citroen.mb.ca/galleries/DS_1/index.html) some pictures. I think Sam is referring to the Citroen 2CV which isn’t pretty but a well designed car nonetheless. My vote for one of the most butt ugly cars I have ever seen goes to the Toyota Echo. The Aztek is hideous. I like the Audi TT. ---

I think the PT Cruiser would be great if A: it didn’t look like it was “leaning forward” all the time, B: if they were slightly larger, and C: if they actually had some strength under the hood. By the way… has anyone seen the PT Cruiser Convertible? ---

I’m surprised no one has yet mentioned the [Avanti](http://www.classiccar.com/clubs/aoai/Avanti2001Intro.htm). Totally weird styling and an outrageous price tag. Can you believe they’ve resumed the manufacture of these atrocities? ---

As noted on several posts, the Aztek wins the horror award. However, it should be noted _why_ it is so horrible: From the front: They couldn’t make up their mind what hood to put on it, so they smashed two hoods together and laid them over the engine. From the back: It looks like an old Honda CRX that someone has inflated to the point of bursting. From the side: It _almost_ looks like some other SUVs, except that this one seems to be hunched over as if it was kicked in the crotch. ---

The Avanti is definately different but one has to consider that it was designed 35 years ago without the benefit of wind tunnels and the computer assisted design they use now. Despite this the car has a remarkably low drag coefficient of .35 IIRC and looks pretty good to me. Judging by what cars I like I should be in love with the Aztek and the Echo but find that I am not. ---

Yeah, it’s the Citroen 2CV that may be one of ugliest cars you have ever seen. Make sure your food is fully digested, and click [here](http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/timcott/Daisy2cv.htm) And you speed fanatics may want to latch on to one of these hot-rods. The original 2CV had a 375cc engine with 9 raging stallions under the hood. Why anyone would ever need more than 9 hp I don’t know, but Citroen, being the insane racing company they are, decided to throw caution to the wind and put a new 425cc, 12hp engine in the car in 1960. This allowed 2CV owners to enter the increasingly popular riding lawn mower races. ---

It sounds like the Pontiac Aztek is the #1 pick. I agree. Has anyone noticed that it looks like an oversized Pontiac LeMans? I personally think a couple of these cars are just homely, not ugly. ---

I’ve got a friend who was stationed in Germany when the Wall came down, and he told how hundreds of East Germans drove threir Trabant’s into West Berlin and abandonded them everywhere. He actually got up one morning and saw one in a dumpster. I saw an AMC Pacer once that had a big blower sticking out of the hood and slicks mounted on the back. UG-LY I used to own an '83 BRAT, and while is was kind of homely looking, it was a pretty cool vehicle. It had 4 wheel independent suspension, and the differentials were tucked up high, so the ground clearance was better than you’d expect - the same as a stock CJ Jeep of the time. The suspension was adjustable both front and back, and for styling reasons, I guess, they came with the back all the way up and the front all the way down - I quickly set the front up to match the back, and at least it no longer looked like a bloodhound chasing the scent! But the best about it was - CHICKS LOVED TO RIDE IN THE BACK !!! The comment in the OP about PT Crusier’s “…do they come with violin cases?” is the funniest thing I’ve heard this week! Actually, though, I think the design is paying homage to the panel truck, not a Bonnie & Clyde machine. Since the thread’s been hi-jacked a bit to include all cars (I thought the OP was asking about current models), I can’t believe no one’s mentioned the Nash Metropolitan or the Crosley. ---

I remember Car and Driver reporting on Mercedes market testing the A-class in the American midwest. Everyone stared at it and wondered why they were being asked to spend that kind of money on such a small vehicle. Most Americans don’t really have a parking problem to solve. As far as I know, the A-class is being not offered in America. Good decision. ---

Everytime I see the 2-CV I think of National Lampoon’s European Vacation. “Look kids. There’s Big Ben. Parliament.” That car is indeed an atrocity. Also, excepting the Javelin/AMX, every single car ever made by AMC is horrific. The links earlier in the thread say it all. The newer cars are indeed ugly, but they don’t compare to the older monstrosities, IMHO. ---

Shouldn’t we be happy that they manage to sell so many of them to people who would otherwise buy “real” SUVs? ---
