Just have to share the great news… She’s almost 9 yrs. old now, a black Lab/Shepherd mix. For the past few years the blood tests in her senior wellness screens came back with unusually elevated blood factors. A week ago I took her into the vet for an all-day test for Cushing’s Disease. For those not in the know (which included me), Cushing’s is an incurable adrenal problem. It’s somewhat treatable with what amounts to chemotherapy for life but it certainly impacts quality and length of life. I’ve been on pins and needles, worried sick all week. She’s a mutt but such a sweet, loving, friendly, beautiful, funny pooch. The tests came back **negative**. _She doesn’t have it._ I’m so relieved, and so happy. I’ve been taking a lot of pictures, amidst sudden gusts of tears over possible last shots, etc. Most of 'em probably ended up hopelessly fogged either by my weeping all over one end of the camera while the pooch amiably smudged the lense with nose prints. (Cameras don’t taste remotely like treats. Ptui.) She has the chisled, coal black head of Shepherd: alert, silky black ears, fine pointed muzzle–with a tiny white patch right on her chin. Thick Shepherd ruff, mixed black and brindle…with the chesty build of a Lab. Straight back, four white paws, white steak down the tummy and a Shepherd’s fully, silky tail. And all calm, happy doofus.
