Nah, I’ve only been in Portland for two years. And since my job basically involves responding to problems with the sorting machinery, I’m unlikely to form social connections with letter carriers (I DO hold the carriers in high esteem. They perform a necessary task that I could never do).
My luck is proportional to the number of stores I hit. Whenever I have to drive to another city, I map out a route that takes me past as many small town thrift stores as possible. And plan in plenty of extra time, of course!
I was SO happy when my kids were home this summer. We decided to go visit Grandma, an hour away, and had to take two cars. “Hey, Dad, is your car going past a good Saint Vinnie’s by any chance?”
“Kid, if we leave right now, it can go past three Saint Vinnie’ses, two Goodwills, and a Salvation Army where rich people donate last year’s fashions.”
