**Chefguy** , your post was beautiful; I am crying as I type right now. I’m so, so very sorry for your loss. The random tears will happen. I lost someone very important to me last summer and for 4 or 5 months I had a handful of episodes where I had to pull over while driving, excuse myself from a group, etc. It’s okay. ---

My condolences. The struggle to survive an addiction is real; it’s a hell of a horrible disease, and it takes a lot of our best people, sadly transforming us into something far, far from our best before it’s done with us. I know it’s little comfort now, but know that he did do himself and others good with what he did to recover; he did inspire others to get and stay clean with every meeting he ever went to. And if he was at all like me, he found many moments of peace and happiness along the way, amidst the storm that is battling the addiction. ---
