I don’t _know_ why! He thinks reinitializing my hard drive helps. It doesn’t.
Here’s the story. I’m old and set in my ways. If something works I try hard not to fix it. I drive a Mac G3 Blue & White. I use Netscape 4.79 (yes, that old!) as a browser & Comcast high speed cable access. It works for me, and I know I’ll have to upgrade soon.Well, when Hubby got a wild hair the other day, he chose to involve me & my innocent Mac.
First, he had a big brain fart, and loaded 8.5 over OS 9.2.2. If anyone asks, that’s a _bad_ idea. It took me all day and half the night, but I got it mostly fixed.
My only problem (ok, not my only problem) is my comcast mail. We set up the internet control panel on my machine. I didn’t change any preferences on Netscape. Now my comcast mail isn’t recognized. I’m sure I named something wrong or something simple like that. I know when Comcast took over from AT&T we had to change some things, but I don’t remember what.
Can someone help me, Pleeeese???
I could live without e-mail, but I don’t want to!

I know setting up Netscape on the Mac isn’t the same as on the PC, but the email settings should be:

> [@](#):

>
> Server user name is your Comcast user name.
>
> [mail.comcast.net](http://mail.comcast.net) is the incoming mail server.
>
> Mail server type is POP3.

I hope you find your answer (I’m running 10.3, so I can’t really help) - but did you know apple has a large discussion board for questions like this? Check it out [here](http://discussions.info.apple.com/).

Good luck!

Thanks, Yes, I spent a good part of yesterday there. Part of my problem was Hubby didn’t _tell_ me he had loaded 8.5 over 9.2.2, so I was on his computer trying to find out why mine kept blowing up in my face. He finally mentioned it at 4:30pm. I spent the next couple hours untangling that mess. The Apple site didn’t have specifics, and Comcast won’t allow me access until I upgrade my browser.
I think he does these things on purpose. He has Jaguar, too, so it doesn’t break. He wanted something to fix, and fix it he did!
I’ll try **Fear Itself’s** fix. then move on to the problem of being stuck in OS 9.0 (My OS 9.1 disc blew up too)
