I saw him in St. Louis, Missouri at the Fox Theater sometime around 1990. I haven’t seen a worse stand up performance by an “A-list” comedian ever. The “Katherine Hepburn is like a car with a starter problem” bit stands out as memorably awful, and much of the rest of it was a rehash of shit everyone had seen elsewhere. I don’t know where **anamnesis** gets off calling me a troll for posting my opinions. Really, I could tell you that I thought “So I Married an Axe Murderer” was hilarious and inspired, that “Wayne’s World” (the first) was great and the second one tailed off, that he added a lot to the Shrek character, that the Austin Powers movies were hilarious (my wife and I saw the third one in the theater in Ottawa, Canada and laughed til we cried, along with the rest of the audience, throughout (although the misadventures with silhouettes bit is a bit tired)… …and I could go through the list of Dana Carvey films… …and list my opinions about different things that Will Ferrell and Ben Stiller have done… …but would that make my opinion more convincing to you? ---

My cheeks and the back of my head hurt from laughing so hard at Dennis Miller. In contrast, I was bored at the Dana Carvey show, and remember feeling sorry for him as he sweated and bombed and did the same old shtick. I’ve got no animus towards him, really, I just think he sucks as a comedic performer. I saw Jerry Seinfeld at Northeast Missouri State University just a little while before his show debuted, and he had me rolling and had my cheeks sore at the end. Maybe I just expected more from Dana Carvey, but even Robert Klein (who I also saw in rural Missouri) was funnier. ---

Clever wordplay is the distinguishing feature of Dr Suess’s work. It seems Mike Myers’ interpretation of this consists of spelling out swear words. What a shame. Actually, there was some clever stuff, like the ‘Fun’ song at the beginning which had some rapidfire rhyming. But overall, there wasn’t much Seussian about it, no. Yes, it was a Myers vehicle. I happen to really like Myers and this movie is entirely watchable for me. It really isn’t a kid’s movie, though, precisely because of the stuff he injected into it (the dirty hoe joke was just dead unnecessary, even if it was delivered well). Interestingly, though, in **Mtgman** ’s link it’s suggested that _Cat in the Hat_ was Myers’ punishment for pulling out of the _Sprockets_ project. I don’t know whether the movie would have gotten made without him, though. ---
