Except that, buried deep in Trinidadian folk culture is the admoniton, “ **Never** wake a sleeping **grude**.”

Right, so as much as I feel bad for innocent tadpoles killed for superstitious reasons, your wife told you twice how much she didn’t want these in the house, you went behind her back to just bring it inside without telling her.

Looked at from her POV - or simply an objective POV - you acted like a selfish and passive-aggressive person who didn’t care what his wife thought, dismissed her concerns as non-concerns, and rather than bring it out in the open and just say it to her face (“I don’t care about your island superstitions, or if you are my wife and live in this house too, I consider this MY house and I’ll do as I please, so just suck it up”), you simply ignored her completely.

That would send my wife ballistic, for sure, but I don’t act like this. It would send many people ballistic.

What did you think would happen? After already removing the tadpoles once from the house, finding them back inside again, she’d eventually just shrug and say, “oh well, he’ll do what he does and I’ll just sit back and watch”? Would YOU do the same if the situation were reversed? Would you want a wife like that ('cause clearly, you didn’t get one)?

The fact that “tadpole murder” may have occurred as a side effect is really rather beside the point, unless you’re PETA. You could have just left them outside. It doesn’t seem like she had a problem with them _per se_, just not in the house.

Put another way: why should she have to tell you three times something that should have been clear (or cleared up) the first time, or at worst, the second time (when she physically removed the tadpoles back outside)? “I didn’t take it serious” is excusable for the first time, but not the second.

To put an epitaph to this, she has told me she doesn’t even really believe the superstition but thought that since we had so much bad luck recently(nothing serious, mostly annoyance to me) she felt it foolish to invite much more.

EDIT:If anyone is still crying over the tadpoles, move on as I have.

I’d say that merits a new thread: “On a whim my wife murdered my tadpoles”.

Glad you’re over it.
