I can’t buy that the storage space was an issue. When did MySpace stop being significant? From then to now, by what factor has hard drive space plummeted in cost? If they could afford it then, then surely they can afford one ten thousandth of the cost now.

People upthread are speculating that the “mistake” claim is cover for MySpace wanting to delete a bunch of stuff but not wanting to take the PR hit of deleting it. Which is just a wacky conspiracy theory.
