I was looking at my calendar for June, seeing as how it’s almost upon us, and saw something kind of odd for June 1, this coming Wednesday. In addition to my physical therapy appointment, my grandson’s T-ball practice, and a reminder about a work deadline, I have something at 10 am marked “Sell YYY.”

Sell YYY? What, I wondered, does that even mean? And what’s it doing on my calendar?

I was a bit alarmed, fearing that I had perhaps accidentally replaced something important–a doctor’s appointment, a work meeting–with this mysterious YYY business. Then I looked further, and in the middle of July–July 21 to be exact–there is a notation on my calendar that reads “Alii Kai Vacation Rental Due.” Okay, this one is CLEARLY not my doing, not even accidentally. Alii Kai turns out to be a resort in Hawaii, where I’ve never been and where I’m not planning to go this summer, if indeed ever. Then on August 15 I see “Poipu Vacation Rental Due.” Apparently I have summer plans I never knew about, in addition to selling YYY.

I was quite confused until I happened to notice that all of these showed up in blue–the same color as a number of other things on the calendar, including “St. Barnabas, Apostle,” “Eighth Sunday after Pentecost,” and “The Transfiguration.” All of these are keyed to a calendar operated by the Episcopal Church called “Episcopal Liturgical Calendar 2.” (I am clerk of the vestry–Episcopalianese for “secretary of the board”–at my local church, so that’s why I am “subscribed” to this calendar.) Apparently it’s possible for people who have the calendar to add to it, all unwittingly, with the additions available for all the rest of us to see. Or possibly the additions aren’t unwitting at all but a clever scheme designed to get some other poor sap to pay for their vacation.

I guess the moral is to be sure you enter your own calendar events in the right color. Anyway, mystery solved, mostly. I still want to know what YYY is and how much I’m going to get for it. Who knows, if it’s enough maybe I’ll be showing up at Alii Kai and Poipu after all.

The other moral is: Don’t enter your personal events into a public calendar.

I can’t wait to hear back from the OP when someone writes in a dancing date with their mistress.

Hence my advice to only date people with the same first name as your spouse. It avoids a lot of embarrassment in a moment of distraction or passion.

I presume OP has realized that, if he can see other people’s appointments, they can see his.

I wish someone would enter some fun stuff in my calendar! Being a retired old fart means my calendar is full of thrilling stuff like “dentist 2:30” and “urologist 9 am” and “pay prop tax”. I’d take a “Poipu Vacation Rental Due” any time!

You have more to do on June First than I have for the rest of the year.

I’m not sure who gets the frowny face, but I suspect it’s me.

That’s “ **H** ali’i Kai,” by the way. My ex and I owned a condo there for about 8 years before we sold it this past year as part of the divorce proceedings. It’s a lovely gated community and very relaxing, with a lot of magnificent hikes/walks nearby and, if one enjoys shopping, some excellent options at the nearby Queen’s and King’s shopping centers. Plus what is apparently a great golf course (since I don’t golf I can’t say for sure.)

I miss it, a little, although there is nothing stopping me from hanging out in the area so I don’t really mind. If you have cash to burn and are looking for a relaxing vacation spot, nothing challenging just luxurious, mindless chilling out, I recommend it.

I stayed at a little B&B in Poipu a while back. I thought it was rather nice, and my style of vacation–quiet, laid back, nice scenery, etc. Eating House 1849 was a short walk away and had great food. It looks like the prices have gone up, though.

YYY is the Amplify High Income ETF. Not doing too well. Maybe you bought it on May 31, 2021 so as of today you can count it as a long-term capital gain? OR (more likely) someone got the “Episcopal Liturgical Calendar 2” mixed up with their personal calendar when putting in entries.

I would sooooo make joke entries on that calendar for all to see. Maybe stuff like “Colonoscopy: 11am, Time to get My Butt Examined!” or “Buy stealth fireworks from Vito, 2pm, behind the 7-11”.

I’m sure people here could come up with better ideas.
