See now that is a quality refutation. I am not 100% sure it isn’t worth the risk, but again, not really the point.

Ok, good point. But I think I am still on the right basic track. Town needs to start figuring out how the Night actions work and soon, and if we can do it in such a way that it forces scum to lie on record about what they are doing so much the better.

fuck seer covering?

So the only person who can leave peeks is the seer?

Geez, I’m sure that’ll make life REALLY hard for the wolves.

It also is a bit wtf. “I find player X suspicious so that means they’re probably not scum” just seems a bit eh?

Only I wasn’t saying “I find player X suspicious so that means they’re probably not scum”. No idea how you read that from what I was saying.

I was just saying that I find players who like to nitpick and draw attention to mis-thought ideas that others have (especially when it leads to a vote), can just as likely be scum than the person they’re voting for.

Which leads to this comment…

> Early voting tends to be done more by townies, at least in my experience, since scum don’t want to outright put their necks on the line and drive a mislynch

This I’ve found totally false in games on here. So you’re probably not going to be well to use it in making your decisions.

I guess it’s just chalked up to our different experiences playing on boards with vastly different styles.

In games on here, anyway, scum vote first and early all the time.

> [@Krayz](#):
>
> I thought your post was too villagery, so you must be a wolf ldo.

I see. Can’t just be because I think scum is more likely to hide in an attack on a player for a possible bad idea…it must be because I’m totally scum myself.

It’s possible that this is a concept that I have to actually experience to fully appreciate, but from the way it has been described I can’t really see how it isn’t a lie?

I agree with this. I do think it’s a bad idea, but it’s not as if there’s no upside whatsoever for Town: a public history of Night targets would give Town a way of catching Wolves in inconsistencies. So one can see how a Town player could suggest it. Would a Wolf suggest something like that on Day one? I think that’s a lot less likely, for the same reason I’m dubious of the votes against **MykBot**. Yes, some Wolves are bold enough to stick their necks out with a proposal like that right off the bat, but I think that more often than not they play by the book: lay low, make some safe pro-Town posts, and let Town latch onto someone more vocal and less cautious.

The one part of **NAF** ’s proposal that does ping me is the fact that he just jumped in and announced his target without waiting to see what others thought of the strategy. That seems a bit weird to me, like he’s already planned out an alibi strategy for different Night power scenarios and is trying to lay the groundwork. But again, by committing to it like that, he also risks a lynch far more than if he just floated the idea then backed off it. All in all, I’m giving it a null tell with just a whiff of Town…

Well, I would say that there’s some compromise here.

If you say “Something bizarre happened to me last night, I had my role revealed to me”, then the person that targetted you would know that they (probably) did it, and adjust accordingly, BUT it doesn’t mean they have to out themselves in order to get the information.

There’s a fine line in providing good info for the town and good info for the wolves, if you just think about things before you claim, about whether wolves would gain more from it than town, then leave off posting it.

Because it’s a conditional.

I would never say “HEY GUYS I’M THE SEER, I PEEKED X VILLAGER,” unless I was the seer.

But I would say “HEY GUYS IF I’M THE SEER, I PEEKED X VILLAGER,” on the understanding that I may or may not be the seer. If I am, you still have my peek, and if I’m NOT, you can probably still clear my peek if the wolves kill me.

Anyway I can see it will be problematic here so I doubt I’ll be doing it. It’s super standard over there.

I do, though I’m not in a voting mood at the moment.

Scum will often jump on people who are acting strangely, or “anti-town”, or who have bad ideas, as a sort of stand-in for actual scummy behavior, since that they can’t easily vote for. For their part, scum don’t all that often propose ideas with easily-seen downsides for the town; it’s just too dangerous and conspicuous for the taste of the average scummer.

Ok, I misunderstood you then. It’s true that mafia will nitpick more, because it’s harder to make a case when you know everyones roles, however this early on day one there isn’t much to go on other than nitpicky stuff.

Snipped a bit.

This we can agree on.

In truth, my vote isn’t set in stone and it’s (admittantly) not a very strong one, but I figure it’s a good a vote as any on Day one.

Scum would totally do that but that doesn’t mean \*\*Lightfoot \*\*is scum just from that post. Basically, **Lightfoot** ’s posts to me (and pretty much everyone’s posts so far) are null tells. I also have a tendency to be extremely suspicious of everyone until they are almost 99% confirmed in some way or dead so your willingness to openly state that he gets a pass right now concerns me insomuch as it’s not something I would have done. However, I don’t think that alone makes you scum.

I kinda feel like if I can give small town points for 5 or 6 players, then I can take them off my lynch list for today, and put them back on tomorrow.

Narrowing down the pool of suspects is how I try to play, it seems somewhat more successful than just looking for wolves and not villagers.

If you can think of something that avoids making the early information imbalance worse instead of better, I’m all for it. One aspect of your idea I do like is that to the extent it forces scum to be truthful about their targets, it’s a good thing. Scum forced to fake towniness with actions as well as words is helpful, usually.

I can see the downsides to us claiming our targets. I think I agree with the plan to announce what may have been done to us. It doesn’t reveal anything about our own roles but could catch someone in a lie at some point. To be honest, though, without knowing my role or what kind of response I will get for a Night action (yes, that means my Night action didn’t go through last Night) I don’t know if I can say with any confidence what we should do with our information just yet.

It’s not an injoke, but neither is it quite a ‘hard and fast’ rule. It is, however, a ‘general’ rule 'round these parts. The thought being that Town has enough problems with the Scum lying to them, so they shouldn’t compound the issue by lying to each other. Of course, there are exceptions…but around here something like ‘fakepeeking’ is generally considered anathema.
