You’re overestimating the benefit for you outing yourself as a possible town vigilante.

If you are a villager, the wolves are probably killing you tonight. They don’t even know their roles yet, so their preference would be to night kill you instead of targeting you with night actions.

Now that you’ve explicitly stated that trackers should target you to see if a wolf visits you, you’ve really eliminated any chance of wolves targeting you with a night action instead of using their night kill. Additionally, villagers could have very well targeted you if they suspect they are doctors.
Perhaps more importantly, is that we’ve already lost one of vigilantes on day one. If you’re correct about your power, you’re going to be two dead village vigilante’s in as many days. Losing what may possibly be all of vig’s in two days is VERY VERY BAD.

Finally, and probably least importantly, you outing yourself so the village can help pick your next target is not a good reason to out yourself. There are a bunch of better reasons to already stay quite, but even if those reasons didn’t exist, you can’t even trust the people telling you who to shoot at. EVEN IF we could help you pick a target, the wolves may be able to night kill you tonight and your action may go unprocessed.

To add something I forgot: If the wolves night kill you, I highly suspect that would be traceable. IE I don’t think the tracker can target you and get back “Player A, B, C, D, E, F and G ganged up and killed Askthepizzaguy.” That would be incredibly broken. So the wolves can just night kill you and go untraced.

Groan.

I have heard all these arguments before fellas. This is NOT my first rodeo.

When the vigilante role lands in your lap, feel free to execute your chosen strategy; as it has apparently fallen in my lap, I am choosing an “open” strategy for the explicit purpose of diverting scumkills. It’s too late to debate the merits of revealing now, it’s done.

Now, I ask you folks to name two suspects instead of one. I may not go with your recommendations, but I’d still like to squeeze information out and saturate the discussion with it.

In most games that I’ve played in, the wolves will nominate a player to make the night kill. I have no idea if that’s the situation here, although I kind of assumed it was which now sounds a little silly as then someone would have to forgo their night action to do the NK so maybe it is by committee. At any rate, in your experience are the wolves usually an aggregate killer or is there often a lone wolf who must make the action?

If you’ve heard these arguments before, you should know to stay quite in this spot.. 😕

Your “open” strategy is anti-town. We lose another village vig, we gain no information from your untimely death, and you might not even get to use your power again before you die.

If I were the vig, I’d target PCM tonight unless he gets lynched.

I’m at a beachhouse with family this weekend and will only have intermittent internet access, but the days are long here so I think I’ll be OK in terms of participating and following the thread. I’m glad we somehow took out a wolf last night, but it’s a bummer that we lost our vigilante Guiri, especially since he’s a savvy player. The only other WW game I played where the villagers had a vig, we lost him on the first night as well (although he took the wolf seer out with him that same night).

Here’s my analysis of the voting for krayz yesterday, I hope it proves to be useful:

**Drain Bead** is the first to vote krayz:

> [@Drain\_Bead](#):
>
> Before I look more in-depth at **peeker** , I wanted to make a vote that I might end up moving later, just to get my suspicions on record.
>
> **vote Krayz**
>
> Mainly for his series of posts between 426-439 (I hope I’m getting those numbers right). Noises up the thread, doesn’t provide any reasoning or analysis for any of his multiple smudges (or soft exoneration of **peeker** and **giraffe** ), and generally giving us nothing to go on other than “lolwolf.”

I agree with his reasoning and don’t find this vote to be suspicious. His observations are valid and he’s making the rest of the village aware of them by putting in an early vote.

Twenty minutes and five posts later, **Meeko** , who I subbed in for late in day 1, puts in a vote for krayz. Here is what he had to say:

> [@Meeko](#):
>
> Krayz, you ping the hell out of me. Are you sure you aren’t Pleonast?
>
> You come off with an air pretentiousness that Pleonast can only dream of. You are at best guessing about things that you can’t possibly know yet. The voice you are using here, and indeed in other posts, is condescending to the rest of us. **Either play the game, or comment on it, not both.** I’m not sure if I can explain it any better than this, but if I had to summarize:
>
> \*\*
> You come off as “I can’t be bothered by this game, I’m already over it.”\*\*
>
> Both of the above come together. **I already feel like I _can’t_ give this game the time I need to give it. I get the feeling you could give this game the time you need to give it but you _won’t_.** One of the two is far worse than the other, and I don’t like where you are going with yours. If you don’t want to play this game, get out.
>
> **Vote Krayz**
>
> I’ve voted Pleonast in other games for less. You might not have claimed yet, but I wouldn’t hold it against you. As for Pleonast, as for you, you are holding the game to your standard, and that in turn breaks the game, and does not make it better.

I agree with this as well. I believe that, early in the game, the next best thing after actually lynching a wolf is lynching a villager who is either unwilling or unable to put thought into the game and be productive for the village. \*\*Meeko \*\*had reason to believe krayz would be like this, so I think his vote makes sense.

I decided to leave **Meeko** ’s vote in place because he seemed to have put thought into it and I know that he is/I am a villager.

After these two votes, krazy was tied for second with 2 votes behind **peekercpa** , who had 3.

**Scuba\_Ben** was next on the wagon, voting krayz because he didn’t like that krayz had been smudging anyone that voted for **peekercpa**.

\*\*Mahaloth \*\*then came out of nowhere and voted krayz to make him lead wagon:

> [@Mahaloth](#):
>
> This thing is moving way too fast for me and I can’t believe Day ends today. Krayz is the only one pinging me. Peeker is being his usual distracting self, but that’s just him.
>
> \*\*Vote Krayz \*\*

His only remotely legitimate reason is that krayz is “pinging” him, other than that he only provides excuses for his vote. This seems very wolfy, and of course we now know that \*\*Mahaloth \*\*died and flipped wolf. \*\*Mahaloth \*\*could have decided to push the krayz wagon to protect at least one other wolf who was getting heat at the time. Maybe he saw two or three villagers already voting for krayz and decided he could blend in. For the record, at the time \*\*peekercpa **had three votes and the following players had two votes.
\*\*
MykBot
Dancecat
Giraffe
TexCat**

**Idle Thoughts** has claimed that it was revealed to him that \*\*peekercpa \*\*is a villager, so if that’s true then he’s not who the wolves would have been trying to save. It’s not a lock, as **Idle Thoughts** could have received an incorrect reveal from Gadarene or he could be lying. \*\*Idle Thoughts \*\*eventually jumps on the krayz bandwagon himself, so I think if it turns out peekercpa is scum then more than likely Idle Thoughts is scum too and has been trying to protect peekercpa.

I am less suspicious of **Scuba\_Ben** ’s vote because he provided a reasonable explanation for why he was voting and because he switched his vote to **Suburban Plankton** , a complete non-wagon, not long after \*\*Mahaloth \*\*voted krayz.

The krayz bandwagon is quiet for about 150 posts, at which point krayz has three votes along with **peekercpa** , **Dancecat** , and\*\* Silver Jan\*\*, while \*\*TexCat \*\*has four. Idle Thoughts then switches from \*\*Dancecat \*\*to krayz in this post:

> [@Idle\_Thoughts](#):
>
> **Unvote Dancecat**
> **Vote Krayz**
>
> I don’t care who he is, he’s certainly not contributing towards the game. Not much to go on when all he does is accuse many players of being wolves and not give much (or any) explanation when called on it.
> Even the players who know him and are used to playing with him in games admit his behavior is off and that he’s not acting like himself. Well, speaking as a person who doesn’t know him at all, that’s good enough for me.
> There’s usually a good reason that a person you know isn’t acting like they usually do…the reason, in my opinion, should be—well—donuts (to try out one of the 2p2 terms)(And I really hope I used it right).

While this makes sense, this is a bit of a rehash from the reasons \*\*Meeko \*\*and **Drain Bead** provided when they voted krayz. See above for what I think this could mean if \*\*peekercpa \*\*turns out to not actually be a villager.

Shortly thereafter, \*\*Lightfoot \*\*votes for krayz here and makes him the leading bandwagon yet again:

> [@LightFoot](#):
>
> I’m at work and I may miss EOD (boss is in office this afternoon)
> That said I will place a vote
> \*\* vote Krayz \*\*
> Directly related to the comments I have quoted earlier and their responses (or lack there of) to them.
> Where the player comes from and how they choose to play the game aside.
> If I can get back in I will make sure this is where I still want my vote. But at this point that’s my best case and I do want to make sure I leave a voting record.
> I’m behind about a 1/2 page will attempt to catch up

To me, this seems wolfy and uncomfortably similar to **Mahaloth** ’s vote and post. He doesn’t seem to have a great reason for why he’s making the vote - it reads more like an excuse for why he’s making this vote. I have a full time job too so I can relate, but I still think it’s a suspicious in terms of its timing and tone, and it’s worth making note of. I will say that his last few sentences sound villagery, and he was paying attention to krayz before this vote.

**Scuba\_Ben** then changes his vote back to krayz after seeing that nobody else is going with his **Suburban Plankton** vote.

> [@Scuba\_Ben](#):
>
> I quoted three posts where you smudged people who were going after peeker, and you muck with that? You’re misrepresenting me.
>
> Though I’m not solid on lynching you yet. But the votes on TexCat don’t sway me.
>
> So time to get with the current programs. And on preview I see Idle raised the issue of your fakepeeking, which I am calling smudging.
>
> **unvote Suburban Plankton**
> **vote Krayz**
>
> As always I’m willing to be persuaded.

This seems like something a villager would do, it looks like he’s genuinely interested in getting the village to make the best lynch and states that he’s still open-minded.

The last vote garnered attention for being scummy right away, and I see it’s still attracting attention today:

> [@Precambrianmollusc](#):
>
> **Vote Krayz**
>
> for the whole fakeppeking / smudging thing.
>
> Day one lynches are always for horrible reasons.

This is wolfy for the same reasons as **Maholoth** ’s and **Lightfoot** ’s posts were, but might be the worst of all three. He later admits it was his first post in the entire thread. He said he’s from Brazil and has limited internet access. While that might explain why he hadn’t been active in the thread, it doesn’t explain his bizarre post. I imagine that a wolf who doesn’t know what’s going on in the thread would rather not vote at all than make a vote like this and attract attention to himself, but he might have not known any better and decided to vote for the leading villager bandwagon.

Well, that took longer than I thought and I’m going to sleep now. I’d appreciate any comments on my analysis in this post, and would like to hear from the people that I claimed acted suspiciously ( **Lightfoot** , **Precambrianmollusc** , maybe **Idle Thoughts** although that depends on **peekercpa** ’s afilliation). I’ll be back by tomorrow night at the latest.

On a note related to game mechanics, I think it might be better if the night chat had its own thread. While it’s fun and mostly harmless, it can be a little distracting and it adds more no-content posts to the thread and makes it harder to read. I believe it makes reviewing previous days or analyzing posts from a certain user a little more time-consuming. A separate thread dedicated for night chat would allow players to talk with each other at night while keeping the game thread a bit more tidy and compact.

I think you’re correct that all the wolves would have a secondary action, and they elect one of their own to perform the kill.

It may also be possible that the game host gives the scums a restriction of having a different person do the kill every night, similar to our restriction of targeting someone different every night. Might be wishful thinking on my part.

I believe that one wolf does the kill action, the others do their primary function.

I base that on my game design and hosting experience and in a theoretical sense, not based on my game playing experience, because this is a relatively uncommon setup.

The wolves collectively decide on a player to nightkill and someone from the wolf team pm’s the mod who the nightkill is. A wolf making his own independent kills by his own decision would just be a night wolf vigilante. I don’t think those are common at all though, can’t think of a game where I can remember that role.

One wolf will just pm the mod who the nightkill is. I suspect that if pizzaguy is tracked by a villager, and the wolves night kill him, that the tracker will get “no result” or something along those lines. The night kill is probably processed before the night actions anyways, but I’m not positive about that.

When the day comes when there is only one correct mafia strategy, and you can prove it, come talk to me. Otherwise, I respectfully disagree.

Mafia is effectively a rock-paper-scissors WIFOM experience.

It’s not as open and shut as you’re saying. And like I said, what’s done is done.

Yeah, I doubt a separate night thread will happen. The majority of posters on this board don’t know what the hell mafia is and they don’t like it. There are complaints sometimes if we have a few games going about the surfeit of mafia threads with just the game thread and a forbidden thread\*

\*We usually have a thread for nonplayers to kibbutz in who are unspoiled. It’s forbidden because it’s a little unseemly for players to be cruising the sidelines for analysis.

I apologize, I was unclear. I did not mean one wolf unilaterally decides the NK, I mean the group comes to a consensus and then one wolf is selected to perform the kill specifically so a tracker or watcher can get info.

This is a dangerous looking line of thought to me. It seems to be treading perilously close to not looking for scummy behavior but just anti-town antics. That is not really as useful.

The majority of the actions townies take in a mafia game are usually anti-town.

Lynching each other, falsely accusing one another, not voting, being inactive, accidentally revealing information, etc.

It’s best to focus on scummy behavior, because focusing on anti-town behavior is anti-town behavior…

I’m not interested in essay bets, BTW. So, either he is town and is just back on the vicodin and vodka diet, or he’s scum and playing his usual self to hide his “scum tell”. I put that in quotes, because I don’t necessarily believe it’s the case. Of course, it’s all a WIFOM case and have no idea what to make of it as of yet. So, stinky smelly FOS, but not enough for a vote.

Of those who are less talkative, I have not gotten a particularly scummy vibe from those others who went after Krayz.

I went looking for folks who were slightly more talkative and I found this vote and the reasons for it.

It gave me a feeling in my gut like I should vote for you.

**Vote: Brewha**

Die, foul scumbag.

I don’t mind brewha as a vote, I read him yesterday and 5/6 of his 8 posts have been off-topic, with the last couple only relating to peeker and then him casting his vote. He’s an okay vote, but he’d be a perfect example of someone who you should have tried to use your vig on instead. If he’s a wolf, he’s so under the radar that the wolves wouldn’t think to try to roleblock him (if they even know who their roleblocker(s) are yet).

Bleh at my fail. Roleblocker(s) should read doctor(s).

I have only played one other game with a Re-director in it and it redirected everyone’s night actions to one person (Mahaloth as it happens), if we have a re-director here then it cannot work the same way. Could it just randomly redirect some Night Actions because mine weren’t affected at all? I am interested because\*\* Idle\*\* said that he didn’t target\*\* Dance\*\* yet he still got a result on her. I think it’s possible that\*\* Dance\*\* could have directed her Night Action to Idle because he voted for her and although she didn’t know what would happen she did hope that something possibly would happen.

There also could be mystic seers. No one else has claimed to have gotten peeks (and I don’t think they should at this point) but they work something like:

Mystic A submitted peek for Mystic B
Mystic B submitted peek for Mystic C
Mystic C submitted peek for Mystic A

Those guys existed in the other mystery mash. Obviously they may not be present here but it’s another possible theory. I don’t exactly understand that set up myself but that has a lot to do with how tired I am right now.
