I’m no expert on horses or anything. Heck, I haven’t even ridden one but once in my life. But I do think they’re beautiful and noble creatures, and I do love the names they get — especially race horses. “Here comes Al Capone’s Taxman down the stretch! He’s neck and neck with I Hate Ballroom Dancing. But streaking up fast from the rear is Tuesday’s Bellyache! It’s a race to the finish!” I like Pretty With Eyes Closed. ---

Scumbucket. 😃 (Okay, so only fellow AiC fans who have seen **The Nona Tapes** will remotely get that…) My Mom’s horse was named Penny. My favorite one at the stables where I learned to ride was Velvet. Keeping it short & sweet is usually advisable, though I guess if it’s a race horse–go wild! ---

I’ve thought that if I ever get extremely rich and own a series of racehorses (unlikely) I will name them after my favourite fictional heroes. The Saint Sherlock Holmes Han Solo etc. But I’d wait until I have a really superior champion and call him \*\* John Steed.\*\* ---

Those probably weren’t their registered names (which are usually a few words long and taken from their sire and/or dam) but their “barn names” or nicknames. ---

My horse’s registered name is Northern Cosmos but we just call him Cosmo or Cos. His sire is Northern Steel and his dam is Miss Bailey Pete. I’m not sure how they came up with Cosmos from Miss Bailey Pete. None of his grandparents or great-grandparent has any thing like sky or cosmos or anything. When I start showing him in I’m going to list his show name as Just-Be-Cos. ---
