Name a singer with an "unusual" voice.

Okay, no one mentioned Aaron Neville!! Very distinctive voice, no singer who made it in the industry sounds like him. There may be some undiscovered soul out there, but as it stands no one.

Some of the voices mentioned have soundalikes. Maybe not dead ringers, but still enough to nullify their distinctiveness.

Examples include:

Frank Sinatra-Tony Bennett kind of sounds like him.

Sting-Tony Lewis of the Outfield could sometimes remind one of Sting.

Tom Petty and BOB Dylan, whom I think sometimes sounded similar.

Kevin R. Starrs of Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats. He has some sort of falsetto going on, I thought it was a lady singer at first. Great riffage though.

Yes, I was going to post Natalie Merchant.

John Darnielle of the Mountain Goats.

John Fogarty.

Jon Anderson of Yes. Took me a while to get used to his voice, but now I like it.

If anyone mentioned him already, I missed it.

When I saw the title of the thread just now, I thought of Adam Levine, also unmentioned, in one second, and Neil Young a second after that.

Which puts me in mind of the country singer John Anderson, who has that whispery nasally thing going on. It’s weird, but somehow works.

John Sebastian has an “unusual” voice to me .

Peter Gabriel, especially when he fronted Genesis.

As I read this question, I was literally listening to “God Shuffled His Feet” and thought, he would be a perfect candidate for this question, but you beat me to it…
