For years I’ve been annoyed by rock climbing, white water kayaking type adventurers that seem total arrogant jerks. Hey, I like to enjoy the outdoors more than most, but I don’t brag, fist pump,and high five my friends and yell “Wahoooow, that was AWESOME DUDE!” What is the generalized label I can affix to these asses? ---

Gahh, I hate these types. Yeah, there are the folks that are pumped and excited. Thats all well and good. But there are two aspects of that get under my skin. They are often so damn busy having fun that they are not considerate of the others around them. They get in other folks way or think they have priority over the common folk or turn a nice day in the woods in an irritating impromtu “rebel yell” contest. That, and they think this risky recreational activity is some mark of machohood. Hey, if you wanna be a big man join the military, become a volunteer firefighter or a big brother or something and actually contribute to society. The fact you are risking your life to entertain yourself does not IMO make you any better of a person or is in anyway an indication of your self worth. And I say this as a person who has done “extreme” stuff and if I magically became rich I would spend the rest of my time on earth doing pretty much that full time (but I’d be polite and keep the noise level down). ---

I consider them on the same level as gym rats who yell on every lift including while they are spotting. ---

I call them \*\*The eXtreme-o-trons!!! \*\*(in a low, emphatic monotome when spoken, the three exclamation points and boldface type are required when written) They go along with the enviromaniacs (the ones who take “going green” way too seriously, yes I know it’s important. I’m talking about the ones who act like you’re personally strangling a baby polar bear when you throw something away or use plastic bags at the grocery store) and also techno-tots (small children who can’t actually read but know how to play video games with cheat codes, use the internet, and otherwise make adults look like morons when it comes to technology) ---
