name for someone who says "you really shouldn't do ___"?

Mother-in-law?

Yep, often times you are right…Always you’re a pain in the tushy.

No debate from me that I should wear gloves when I wash dishes with harsh soap, or that I should wear my helmet, or that I should sharpen a knife “like this.”

I just want to know how to describe such a person.

I call them “Mom”, even when it’s a guy. It’s cute to see the expression on males (one of whom is several years younger than me, even) when I say “Yes, Mom” to their shoulds and shouldn’ts.

Bossy knickers

“killjoy” fits in some of those case though not all.

I don’t have a name for them, but the response is usually “Gee! I thought I was a grownup and could make my own decisions about risk.”

Not that this opinion stops me from acting similarly when I think that I know better than the other person…so perhaps flaming hypocrite is appropriate in some cases.

“Mrs. Bizzwire.”

That’s the word I was going to suggest.

Scold.

Several with hypens come to mind, but they aren’t appropriate for GQ.

General manager of the universe

Good Lord, I’d have whacked this OP into MPSIMS in a heartbeat.

Why don’t we try IMHO, you nudnik.
