Name that tune - Casablanca

No, that’s not it either.

I know “You Go to My Head” and “The Very Thought of You” very well- well enough to sing all the words, and the song in the film is one of those that I can’t quite put my finger on. I think the title might be a woman’s name.

Okay, it is definitely “Heaven Can Wait.”

Listen here a, a few bars in after a brief intro.

There’s no particular song there.

What are you talking about? At that link you will hear Tommy Dorsey and His Orchestra play the song that the band strikes up in Casablanca, “Heaven Can Wait.”

Doesn’t work for me either. I see the front page of YouTube and a bunch of suggested videos on a variety of subjects.

If that’s what you wanted to link to, try this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKSeRqShFMI

Interesting…when I click on the link in my post, I go to the song. Anyhoo, that’s the song from the movie.

I was just watching Casablanca again and came back to review this thread. This was awesome! Just what this forum is all about. Thanks so much to everyone who participated.

Heaven Can Wait… this is paradise…

According to the list for Laura, it’s “Theatre Lobby” at 04:42.

Am I the only one who went to that link and clicked on “Show more”? :dubious:

Post #12 from two years ago would suggest that you aren’t.

I’ve just come back to this thread again. And what I still don’t get is … how did I recognize Heaven Can Wait when I watched Casablanca? Where had I heard it before? It wasn’t the Tommy Dorsey version. The Dorsey version is all instrumental while the version I remember has vocals: " Heaven can wait… this is paradise…"

What I’m thinking is that–like so much other music-- I first heard it in a cartoon. Most likely a Warner Bros cartoon.

Well, dopers? What say you? Does Heaven Can Wait show up in any Warner Bros cartoons?

Fun fact: It was originally planned to have the Germans sing the “Horst Wessel Lied,” the Nazi Party anthem, but it turned out to be copyrighted. “Wacht am Rhein” was substituted instead to avoid embarrassing legal issues.
