Name the actor by surnames of roles played

#48

Cody
Donelly
Hudson
Lovett
O’Malley
Vaughn

#49

Druthers
Grissom
Grossman
Whatley
White

Bryan Cranston

#50
Valentine
Shank
Chung
Blake
Lew

I’m trying to make this one Not Easy:
#51
Ross
Roth
Johnson
Shaw
Ryan

As a hint, there are at least four surnames I could add, any one of which could instantly give it away.

WAG… Eddie Murphy? (I’m not using IMDB.)

Meryl Streep

Correct

Through sheer brute force (I’m bored at work), I came up with Meryl Streep. Is that correct or are those 5 names just common enough that another actor has had them too?

#52
Blake
Cohen
Mitchell
Rogers
Rose

I can think of at least 3 names that would make this one much easier.

No.

This might be stretching things a little but…

#53
Corleone
King
Doe
Truman
Rosen
Liddy

Just a heads-up, players.

As this thread is approaching 200 posts, I think it may be easier to access the unsolved puzzles if I start a new thread that includes just the rules of the game and the unsolved and/or unverified puzzles. We can add to that and leave this one active as well, just in case.

I would like to specify in the OP of the new thread that IMDB and other sources are fair game and not to be considered cheating. If we had to outlaw such help, I personally would be lost.

I would like some feedback on these issues and any others that are bugging you.

I propose the new thread title to be:

Five (or more) character surnames = one actor: Thread #2

Any problems with that?

FWIW I’m working on a Notepad file that will organize the guesses and verifications next to the original puzzle, for ease of reference, both here and in the new thread – once it gets going well.

This has been my most successful new thread since I started back at SDMB last month. Thanks, all!

The problem is that IMDB allows searchs by character names. Which essentially makes this quiz an exercize in who can look up the answers quickest. I’d allow IMDB searchs but not character searchs. If you see a character name that looks familiar you can look up the actor to verify you’re right and to check for other characters played by that actor.

Thanks for the feedback, Little Nemo.

Have you done an IMDB character search? There are pages of hits on such names as Shaw, Ryan, Jones, Johnson, and dozens more like them. The trick is to pick likely candidates for the actor and then verify them against the actor’s other roles.

If we outlaw IMDB character searches, then it’s going to be a game of who knows the most obscure roles that actors have played. I’d wager that well over half the puzzles would remain unsolved, especially when the selection of roles for the puzzle has been based on those that are not the main roles actors are known for.

If you want to outlaw IMDB character searches, please start a new thread with that as a rule and see how far it goes.

You are both correct!

********************* Thread Summary as of Post # 192 ***************

This listing is for puzzles that have yet to be completely resolved.

Completed puzzles, with confirmation by the original poster, as well as
chit-chat and extraneous remarks not directly affecting the puzzles
themselves, have been removed.

Puzzles are in Post Number sequence of the original Puzzle Post.

Guesses (where applicable) are inserted in their Post # order.

This list will be updated and reposted at the top (or as near as possible)
of the next page of this thread.

If interest warrants, and a new thread on this same concept gets started,
the upddated list will also appear early in that thread.

Thanks to all who have played. If you need to tidy up things you started,
please do so.

I have spent hours (!) finding Reese Witherspoon’s match to these names.

Excellent selections, Sternvogel. You’d be surprised how many “close but no cigar” matches I’ve run across.

Yes, I realize that and I have read the OP and understand the concept of the thread as proven with not only the John Wayne puzzle, but James Gandolfini, Clive Owen, and others.
I answered it for fun and do not need you to explain this thread.
Thank You!

I apologize if you think those comments were directed at you, Sparky812. I realize, and did at the time, that you understand the game and what was intended in the OP. Your puzzles have been fun to solve.

I was supporting your point of view and directing the additional comments to Really Not All That Bright, who appeared to have joined the thread without reading (or understanding) the OP. Maybe that wasn’t clear and if so, please realize I wasn’t trying to explain the thread to you.
