Ah, often have I been told that. But all those other times it was by trolls with no noses. And they said I stunk!
Anyway, I think a lot of Keanu’s movies are miscast roles for him, but ya gotta hand it to him, he likes to try new things.
I thought he was perfectly cast in Demolition Man, (which is a damn good comedy).

How ungallant! I’m not particularly a fan of the looks or the acting of Diaz and Barrymore, but I would never dream of calling either one ugly. And Lucy Liu is gorgeous (and a good actress when she tries; her performance was just about the only redeeming feature of Payback).
Anyway, re the OP:
Marlene Dietrich as the Wicked Witch of the West.
Ronald Reagan as Che Guevara.
Telly Savalas as Rapunzel.
Oh, wait, you mean miscasting that actually happened? Well, in that case:
Charlton Heston as Miguel Vargas, Touch of Evil.
Gary Cooper as Will Kane, High Noon (great movie, but the role needed Fonda, not Mr. Monotone).
Tony Curtis as Andrei Bulba, Taras Bulba.
Jenny Agutter as Jessica Five, Logan’s Run (Olivia Hussey should have gotten the part).
Val Kilmer as Montgomery, The Island of Dr. Moreau.
Nick Nolte as Thomas Jefferson in Jefferson in Paris. Icky-poo.
Robin Williams as “young Osric” in Hamlet. He wasn’t bad so much as distracting, though.
Jason Robards as Brutus in Julius Caesar.
Adding to the Keanu Reeves hall of shame, Reeves as Danceny in Dangerous Liaisons. (oh wait, somebody got that one – nuts.)
Ben Affleck as just about anything, really.
Other things…
Malkovich as Javert: tsunamisurfer is referring to a made-for-TV version with an all-French cast, except for Malkovich. Gerard Depardieu played Jean Valjean. There were two versions made, one in French and one in English.)
Also, River Phoenix was originally cast as Lestat, but then he died.
Nicholas Cage was actually cast as Superman in a film that was thankfully never made,
The entire cast of that monstrosity titled Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. That whole project makes me want to puke.
Haj
Actually I thought River Phoenix was cast and filmed some footage as Daniel, the interviewer, not Lestat. After Phoenix’s overdose/death they got Christian Slater to step in and take over the role.
I, too, have read that Walter Pidgeon considered the role of Morbius beneath him (my God, how many times does he use the word “gentlemen”?!), and a few times while explaining the Krell technology, he stumbles on words, pauses, gets his train of thought back, and continues. But, I have also read that before his death (in the late 70s/early 80s), he softened his opinion (at least publicly), and acknowledged that it wasn’t as bad as he had sometimes made it out to be. To this day, Earl Holliman (with better reason than Pidgeon) considers “Forbidden Planet” his worst film, or perhaps his worst role, I can’t remember.
To the OP: Uma Thurman as Emma Peel in “The Avengers.” Should have gone to (Branagh’s ex-wife, can’t remember her name).
And George Lazenby was okay in some scenes in “On Her Majesty’s…” You watch the movie, you can almost tell the order in which it was filmed by the improvement (however slight) in his acting ablity.
Jenny Agutter rules, btw.
Sir Rhosis
Yep. Incredibly wooden performance. Then again, Richard Chamerlain as Octavian didn’t do much, and Richard Johnson as Brutus, Robert Vaughn as Casca and even John Gielgud as Caesar weren’t great, either. Heston was OK as Antony, but even he wasn’t inspiring.
I recommend the BBC production with Richard Pasco as Brutus, or the 50’s version with Marlon Brando as Antony. Both were far superior.
As for bad castings, two I didn’t see but heard about:
John Denver as an evil land developer who cares nothing about the environment in a made for TV christmas movie. Right.
The Golden Turkey Awards mentioned “Desire Under the Elms”, with (get this!) Anthony Hopkins, Sophia Lorn and Burl Ives in a love triangle.
AAAUUUGH!
Just about everyone in The Story of Mankind. The movie boggles the mind. I would LOVE to have a copy of this for one of my Bad Film Festivals. Consider:
Groucho Marx as Peter Stuyvesant
Harpo Marx as Sir Isaac Newton
Chico Marx as a monk (!)
Peter Lorre as the Emperor Nero
No one holds a candle to Diana Rigg. And, yes, Emma Thompson would have been an improvement over Uma Thurman.
So would Ethel Merman, Phyllis Diller, and Earnest Borgnine in drag.
Umm, I think you mean Terrence Mann owns the role.
Tim Robbins and Gary Sinise in Mission to Mars. Two fine actors who were VERY awkward in their roles in this movie…
I don’t base too much of my feeling for a movie performance on book descriptions; I based my opinion of Sinise’s performance more on the feel of the character, which I think he got just right. But I agree, he didn’t match the picture in my head of Stu Redman. When I re-read the book after the mini-series, he did

Well, that’s fair enough. I’m almost afraid to reread the book just for that reason, although I watched the series long after it was broadcast (on video). But ya gotta admit, the relationship between him and Frannie makes more sense with Gary Sinise than it does with an old fart.
I find it hard to believe that the worst miscasting in history has yet to be mentioned, so let bagkitty enlighten you:
Ryan O’Neal in Stanley Kubrick’s film “Barry Lyndon”.
Truly, the worst.
An otherwise wonderfully cast movie----LESLIE HOWARD as AHLEY WILKES in GWTW. Too old and not boyishly handsome. I wonder if they had considered blondeing Robert Taylor’S or Henry Fonda’s hair.
I didn’t like Brad Pitt as Louis (but he was better suited than Cruise was as Lestat-Lestat’s 6 feet tall, remember!)
And Antonio Banderas as Armand was WAAYYYYYY OFF!
However,
Kirsten Dunst’s portrayal of Claudia was absolutely, shockingly, jaw-droppingly brilliant… IMHO

Sylvester Stallone in ANY comedy.

I liked Oscar.
John Malkovich as John Malkovich in “Being John Malkovich”…oh wait, scratch that…
OK, seriously: Dick Van Dyke as Cmmdr. Caractacus Pott in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Total ruination of one of my favorite childhood books. I’d like to see them redo it as it was originally written. And not as a bloody musical.

Sorry, for the slight hijack, but I’ve got the book right here, and while I can’t find an exact quote of his age (it is a long book), I don’t think Stu was an “old fart”.
In one description of Stu, his wife had passed away 4 years prior to the current events. She was only 27 when she died, and I think it is safe to assume they were close in age. That puts Stu at 31 or 32 years old.
Also, Frannie is 21 or 22 years old, and someone describes Stu as being 10 years older than her. That also makes Stu 31 or 32 years old.
Now, I don’t know how old you are, but if 32 years old is “old fart” material, I’m in big trouble!!
