# Name This Rock

My wife took our son to Ohio Caverns last weekend, and they came home with a very pretty, very heavy set of stones. They’re made to be book ends, meaning that they’re flat on the bottom, cut through the polished face and sides, and the very cool pattern of color matches if you align the halves. The veins of color (white, blue, red and purple, and various shades of each) represent different minerals in the rock, right?
My question is, what’s the name for this rock?

[Geode](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geode), or possibly [Thunderegg](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thunderegg)? Although I’ve always called both of those geodes.

Perhaps a [banded agate](http://www.britannica.com/eb/art-4116/Banded-agate) or another [agate of some sort?](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agate)
