> Most interesting was finding out the act Decca chose over the Beatles (Brian Poole and the Tremolos, who did have a couple of UK hits) and the reason why (they were from London, nearer to Decca’s offices).

Just want to mention that I already downloaded the book and am 50 pages in. It’s indeed a fascinating read. I knew that John Lennon was a difficult character, but I never knew what a mean asshole he was in his youth. And I knew their Hamburg days were rough, but not that sleazy as described in the book. It’s a pity that there are no useful live recordings of their Hamburg and Cavern days.

You love Mick Taylor, and rightly so.
Fun fact: He contributed to, and I believe even plays in the released version of, “Waiting On A Friend,” that harmlessly pleasant enough track from _Tattoo You_.

(Sonny Rollins and Mick Taylor… just one degree of separation).

Every album is somebody’s favorite, but _Some Girls_ really started the “Aren’t they dead or retired yet?” refrain that has raged unabated for 40 years.

Interesting. I’ve always found it to be their last great album, and the first good one since Sticky Fingers (the only Mick Taylor era album I liked).

Aftermath (UK Version)
Some Girls
Let It Bleed
Sticky Fingers
Hot Rocks 1964-1971 (yeah, it’s a compilation, but it was the first Stones album I owned. I stole it from my cousin’s box of tapes)
