As I’ve mentioned in various other threads I am, frankly, too lazy to link to, I am working on a children’s story with significant fantasy elements. In this story, my two protagonists meet an otherwordly creature hailing from a realm that was once the same as Earth. I’ve just gotten to a point in the tale in which the creature in question says, basically, “For God’s sake, stop blubbering.” I don’t want to use the word “God.” But I do want to make it clear that this creature is a theist (partly because the creature itself is powerful and more than a little numinous, and I’m trying to un-Aslan it.) Thus So I’m brainstorming possible synonyms, and of course I’m coming to you lot for help. Here are some possible other names I’ve come up with thus far: Architect Shaper Maker Whatever word I use has to be something a theist might reasonably as a proper name for the Deity (if only to fit in the rhythm of the sentence). Any suggestions would be appreciated. ---

Well I believe there are 9 billion names for God. But I wouldn’t dare list them all. Ask Arthur C. Clark, he’ll tell ya why! ---

Oh! I thought you meant “other names” as in, like, _names_. Like “Adonai,” “Yaweh,” etc. 🙂 I think you and **duality72** covered all of the kinds of names you’re talking about … at least, _I_ can’t think of any others, but I’m sure someone else will come along who can. ---

How about the name “Chuck”. Seems like it would be easier to speak to the all-knowing if there was a nice common name to identify with. It is a lot easier to say, “Hey Chuck, what’s up with letting little kids die?” Chuck, “Well, DMark, I thought about that and…” See, if you are talking with Chuck, it is no big deal to get up and go to the fridge and get a beer while he is talking. But if you are talking with God, well, it might be kind of tacky to shuffle off to the kitchen and you would probably feel obligated to offer wine and fish. But with Chuck, you could share some Pringles and a Miller Lite and get some answers. ---
