Names that have special meaning for you

Perhaps this only happens to me, but it seems that a lot of the significant people in my life have similar names.

For example, my first love was Jennifer H. The guy that introduced us was Josh H. Jennifer’s boyfriend (read the “Who broke your heart?” thread for the full story) was Jimmy H. Then I got to college, and my roommate was Jan H. I was beginning to feel a bit like Clark Kent must everytime he meets someone with the initials LL.

Another example: My mom’s name is Katherine, my best friend’s name is Catherine. My ex-girlfriend’s name is Katharine. When I started going out with her, her roommates were Catherine (different from my best friend), Catherine Anne, and Linh Thu. Linh Thu is also a friend of mine, as are Lynn and Lynne.

And the last name that has a lot of significance to me is Sarah. Must have the “h” at the end. I only knew one real Sarah who I’d call a significant person in my life, but I have recurring dreams about a (fictional, as far as I know) girl named Sarah. And I named the heroine of the stories I’ve started to write after her.

Do any names have special meaning to you?

Hi, Nerd. Yes, there are some. Kenneth for one. My son’s first name, my hubby’s middle name, his Dad’s first name, his grandfather’s first name, and several of the friends I’ve known over the years.

Sue. There are at last count, 6 people on my mom’s side who all have the same middle name, of Sue. Why that is, I haven’t a clue.

They named an invisible 6’ rabbit in a movie after my dad. Harvey.
Ok, maybe not, but it sounds good, doesn’t it?

In the past few weeks I’ve met several people with the same, or very similar name. Alyssa, Alician, Allison.

I’m sure there are more, but it’s late and I’m tired.

Does the 90% concentration of Marys (Maries?) in my grade school count? Named my oldest Mary and she was the only one in her entire school.
