My aunt married a guy named Matherson. I kept pressuring them to name their firstborn “Bat.” They didn’t listen… Other names I have seen: Asthma (a nice refugee from Algeria)Asshole (a longtime personal friend of Wynona Ryder) and anyone remember the skier Pikaboo Street? ---

On the way up to Ithaca, NY, there’s a sign showing the exit toward the towns of “Dunmoore” and “Throop” and ever since seeing that sign, I’ve decided I must name _something_ or _someone_ Dunmoore Throop. ---

Yeah, I mispelled-thanx for the catch- and yes, that is the correct pronunciation. One I found in a work of fiction was Hiro Protagonist. He was the main character in Neal Stephenson’s “Snow Crash.” ---

**Ulysses.** I guess the reason I would not name a boy that is because 1) I already named my cat that and 2) I doubt I will ever find a husband that would agree to that name… **Raven** is a pretty girl’s name, I think. ---

María and Carlos are good names, I just won’t name my kids that. Same with Roberto, José, Guillermo, Manuel, Jorge, Luis, and Ramón. Well, maybe Ramón can escape that. ---

I went to grade school with a girl named Andrea Anna Jones. Guess who her parents were fans of. Although Harrison would be a good name. I am slowly coming to the realization that In probably won’t be able to name any kids I ever have “Dolph” or “Tycho,” which I suppose is just as well since that’s what I name all my game characters. ---

When I was pregnant I told everyone that if my baby was a girl I would name her **Medea**. It’s a very pretty-sounding name, if you can ignore the reminder of child homicide . ---

For all of those who liked the name “Mayor”: I know several guys named Mayer/Meyer/Meir (all pronounced the same as ‘Mayor’). It’s a pretty common Hebrew name. Since it’s all transliterated anyway, go with the spelling of your choice, then tell people you’re getting in touch with your Jewish roots ;j In The Great Gilly Hopkins , which I read in sixth grade and so don’t quite recall the author, the main character’s real name was Galadriel, and I always thought that was cool. ---

I always liked the sound of Arion, which is the Russo-Finnish version of Orion, the great Greek hunter of legend. I also wouldn’t mind naming a kid after Jaco Pastorius-either name really, but Jaco would be preferred. ---
