We have two NAS devices, neither of which fit our needs. Before Newegg sales run out, I’d like to see if updated technology (our devices are a few years old) has smoothed things out. A typical production flow in our little home office is that I work on/create a book in Word, then Mrs. Devil does her magic in InDesign. During (and after) the process, we both need access to the same files. We want to find a Gigabit-capable NAS that will work (as easily and seamlessly as possible) with our Win 7 and Mac OSX machines. The key software/firmware feature we’re looking for is the ability to back _itself_ up to another NAS device. Suggestions? Thanks, Rhythm ---

QNAP has an excellent line of NAS solutions which support [remote backup via rsync](http://docs.qnap.com/nas/en/index.html?remote_replication.htm). The remote target can be another NAS. ---

Any experience with their customer support? I’m fairly adept at figuring things out, but know little of OSX. If we start running into similar problem (e.g. slow/frozen access times), it would be nice to know there is help available. ---

I have no personal experience, but it looks like Synology NAS devices have a [Network Backup](http://forum.synology.com/wiki/index.php/Backup_the_Synology_server_to_a_remote_Synology_server_or_RSync_Server) feature. ---

I have two [Netgear ReadyNAS](http://www.netgear.com/home/products/storage/advanced-prosumer/RNDU2000.aspx) boxes on my home network. Should work fine on your network. ---

I don’t know about being able to back themselves up, but many higher end consumer routers include an NAS feature - often supporting RAID. ---

At work, for production equipment, we use Iomega’s ix2-200 NAS box. They seem to work fine, even for backing up VMWare eSXI virtual machines unattended. At home, I actually have an Acer Aspire system that comes with Windows Home Server 2011, and it also works fine. The Acer comes with 2TB of storage, and supports up to 8TB. Windows Home Server is nice, as it supports account and file access security. ---
