OMG! There’s some kind of National Emergency! I couldn’t hear the whole message, does anyone know what happened? Is it that thing in congress where they can’t hear anything because the speaker isn’t working? ---

Is it like the time the earth was destroyed by a giant meteor and they moved everybody to a new planet but didn’t tell the stupid people about it so they wouldn’t panic? Uh oh, maybe should have kept my mouth shut. ---

I have Amber alerts and weather alerts disabled but this is unable to be disabled. I also have my phone set to vibrate. No matter. It came through and it was loud. ---

My husband’s little flip phone didn’t broadcast any noise, it only got the written alert, but it was not saved as a text. I’m not sure that would do anyone any good in the event of a real emergency. I had my phone on Airplane mode just to see if it made any difference, then I forgot to keep the phone with me at the crucial time – I was upstairs and the phone was downstairs. I think I heard it, anyway I heard something in the distance, maybe it was the neighbors. When I took my phone off of Airplane mode, it very kindly played the whole alert for me (possibly for the second time). Two minutes after the sound I heard in the distance, the cable TV had the alarm, it sounded just like any other alert that comes over cable TV – short blatting noise repeated at short intervals, text on the screen, and a voice reading the text (except that they made a mistake, they said “2:20 pm to 2:40 pm eastern time” instead of “to 2:50 pm.” Kind of a nothing burger, really. I had thought it would be unique and not just like every other alert we ever get. ---

Which was good, I was up on a ladder, painting. Not the raucous _squak_ I was fearing (but, then I always keep my ringer silenced, and just use the vibrate). So, effects were minimal… ps: anyone have a good recipe using brains? ---
