National Anthem at the Home Run Derby

Maybe this one. Should help clean the ear pallet.

There was that other gal who sang it for a Republican committee thing a few years ago who was all over the place with it.

She’s lip-syncing.

I never cared for Whitney’s version
Too long, too much ornamentation, she may just be why no one just sings te the damn song or at least one reason. Everyone wants to trill up and Idown and round and round at every oportunity in every song. I may be alone in this, but I don’t care for it. Pick a note and stick with it, sezs I.

I don’t know how fair this criticism is, but it certainly occurred to me and I was sure it would be many other people’s take on it as well.

Worse than Enrico Palazzo!

I would say this version is worse than the CPAC version, because it’s out of tune and she also tried to spice it up in ways that she couldn’t. At least the CPAC singer just sang out of tune.

Rosanne’s version was worse, but she wasn’t trying to sing well, so maybe it doesn’t count.

Did anyone else mention that she seemed to be unfamiliar with several of the words, too?

You’re not alone. Just sing the damn song! As it was written.

Uggh, finally, Roseanne Barr is mentioned. Hers was downright disrespectful.

Roseanne’s version was one of the absolute funniest things I’ve ever seen.

Rosanne was being an asshole and not taking it seriously.

I feel awful for Ingrid. This was her shot. I just looked and her next two gigs are small clubs with around 300 capacity and $20 tickets and not sold out. She wasn’t a very big deal. She’ll probably never be taken seriously.

Just one glance at what people are doing on her social media feed, and it’s pretty gross. Some people really do take a savage delight in being assholes.

I love it when arrogant assholes get their comeuppance but that doesn’t seem to be the case here. She’s 32 which is typically make or break time in a career at the stage she’s in.

I don’t know very much about the technical aspect of singing and music theory. I do know a lot about live music. I go to well over 150 shows a year and am friends with lots of musicians. To get this once in a lifetime shot and get humiliated like that would be devastating. Maybe she can salvage something by hitting the talk show circuit during her 15 minutes with good humor about this.

There’s quite a few well known singers who just can’t sing live. Mariah Carey has had some issues in this department. She was known as a “slice and dice” singer going way back in the recording studio. The engineers would have her sing bits over and over until they got enough accidently right notes to splice together a decent version.

No autotune but nowadays that’s a lot more common.

It’s also really hard to sing with the echo delay over the stadium’s PA system.

As to Roseanne. Apparently she really did try at first to sing it right but once she realized that the crowd was against her she went full on goofing it. (She also behaved like this on her first Carson appearance. Once she realized she was bombing she just ran out the set in a monotone without most of the usual hopeful pauses for laughs.)

Maybe this is the time to replace the Star Spangled Baaaaannnnaaaannaaaannaaaaair with a better, and easier to sing, anthem, like America, or America the Beautiful. Plus, it already has America in the title.

Just put on a pair of cowboy boots (and sometimes a cowboy hat) and call yourself a “country” singer. That’s why “country” music has dropped deep into the shithole.

-Humans make a country out of a melting pot.
-Humans create an artistic work to celebrate that country.
-Humans decide before they can watch certain games they have to hear a complete stranger’s rendition of that work.
-The performance of this song affects everything even days later.

For the above reasons I must insist we journey along to the next fruitful planet. These lifeforms have nothing to offer us.

Trrue, I started this thread relatively certain the woman in question wouldn’t see it. I would never go somewhere more public or to her social media to torture her. These people who have are pathetic loses.

Or better yet, stop making sporting events patriotic events and don’t sing anything. I don’t go to rock concerts and expect a patriotic display. I don’t go to most events and expect patriotic displays. Why are sporting events the exception?

I don’t think a different song would have helped in this instance. It would, at best, maybe have been a smaller disaster.
