Listening to the FM radio from the Traverse City NPR. they announced that today was National Dog Appreciation Day.

So go lick your dogs’ face. jump up on them umpteen times, chase a cat and/or squirrel, and smell their butt while you still have a chance.

Love my dog. Not smelling his butt. When is human appreciation day? For a dog, it’s every day! And I would say, vice versa.

However, on cat appreciation day I plan to take a nap, get up, stretch, have a little snack, have another nap. Stretch, maybe clean my fur a bit. Go find someplace warm and have another nap. Et cetera.

I don’t have a dog, but I love interacting with them (except for the times they’ve chased me on my bike). Here’s wishing a good dog day to all of the Spots, Rovers, Lassies and Old Yellers out there!

I was just trying to explain just that to Mister Whiskers (a Maine Coon of the feline specie). He just looked at me meowed.
Evidently EVERY day should be cat appreciation day. Go figure. 😃

When I get chased or barked at while riding my bicycle through the neighborhood, I tell (whisper) them their owners have a steak in the back yard.
One of these days I may take up on my offer and actually bring some adult beverages, charcoal and dead cow for merriment of all. 😃

Meanwhile - Mister Whiskers is calmly laying on my bed, licking his paws and satisfied that National Dog Appreciation Day is coming to a close.
Little does he know that LunaTheWonderDog is coming over tomorrow morning and is going to eat all his breakfast.

I can’t think about Old Yeller. I’m ready to tear up.

But here’s to all dogs!!! Wonderful creatures.

I have to agree. They become family, we become family.
Weird as it sounds.

Dogs are magnificent animals with so much loyalty and love it’s hard to even describe. Whenever I meet a dog I always interact with it. I even give attention to dogs tied up outside stores waiting for mommy or daddy to return.

Dogs seem to like me; I’m not sure why: tone of my voice? Gentle approach? Let them sniff the back of my hand before presenting the palm?

All I know is that I get along with every dog I’ve ever met. Great creatures.

I’m amazed whenever I think about what wonderful animals dogs are. They are joy and love personified. Well, not personified, but you know what I mean.

I heard a comedian say once that all dogs could be described with one word. This word is applicable to all dogs at all times, and that word is “ready”. 😃 Now obviously that’s not literally true, but it’s funny how often it’s correct. Look at the dog nearest you. Is he ready?

Dogs are completely _present_ in the moment, whatever they are doing.

I appreciate my dogs (2). Apparently.EVERY.SINGLE.MOMENT.OF.MY.LIFE!!! :smack: 😃

To celebrate, I shared my chocolate chip cookies with them–yes, I gave them the cookie part _sans_ chocolate chips. The 65 lb. Golden Retriever/Border Collie mix tried to celebrate in my lap when I couldn’t make with the cookies fast enough; bad hip (her’s) notwithstanding.

My greyhounds sometimes aren’t ready. They just roll their eyes to look at me. But that’s a hound thing. 😃

On the other hand if something they think is fun to chase shows up, they switch from not ready to already done before you can blink. When they were young, teaching them basic obedience was a challenge because they thought the release command (“okay”) meant LAUNCH OUT OF THE STARTING BOX!

I used to be the kind of cat person who thought dogs were drooly and nasty. But my greys have taught me to like dogs. I’m still snobbish, though, and only like dogs that are calm and sweet.

There’s an old Frazz comic strip where Miss Plainwell, who owns a Greyhound named Mario, says that Mario has only two speeds: too fast and off (or something similar).

Here’s my [11-year-old Greyhound, Tough](http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z300/romansperson/toughrunninmarch2014_zpsd6803e98.jpg). He still runs all-out, every day.

Yay! Greyhound porn! Love the muscles… and he’s a cutie!

Yes, greys have two speeds: off and light speed.
