> Yes, but not in the form of any significant number of her followers casting doubt on Obama’s citizenship.

To be fair it’s not as if a significant number of Republicans doubt Obama’s citizenship either. While the National Review may be in the conservative mainstream, the birther view never was. It’s gross that some politicians are indulging this insanity, but then again, the House is pretty much a zoo anway, so it’s not surprising there are 10 nuts who are willing to play with the birthers for fame and votes.

I don’t think I agree that the numbers are not significant. That nutbag lady who was screaming at that Congressman had the support of the whole room.

Right wing boards and even mainstream news site comment sections are saturated with birthers, and no reasonable majority is speaking out to stop them.

> Right - but as was noted above, one of the people involved enough in this issue enough to sue over it was Philip Berg, former associate attorney general of Pennsylvania, truther extraordinaire and onetime perennial entrant in Democratic primaries in the state. And he was no conservative Democrat either - he was a supporter of Jerry Brown in his 1992 presidential bid.

And Zell Miller endorsed Clinton in 1991. What’s your point?

> Not to say that this fiction doesn’t have quite a few right-wingers spun up, but to say that this is limited to or exclusively led by them wouldn’t be accurate. Hell, Dobbs himself is no philosophical conservative - he has cast himself in recent years as an ultra-populist, which is another thing entirely.

Lou Dobbs is a racist immigration nut, and he’s certainly no liberal.

There’s no such thing as an ineligible ticket. If the President is unable to serve for whatever reason, then the Vice President assumes the role.

> They then said that Pelosi, next in line, would be ineligible because she formally stipulated Obama was a citizen…did not really understand that part to be honest.

You didn’t understand it because it was ridiculous and nonsensical.

> What’s funny is that suppose the brithers were right. Who is President then? Joe Biden. Is that what they really want? Maybe, Joe is white, after all.

If it came out tomorrow that Obama was born in Kenya, the President would be… Barack H. Obama.

He has been sworn into office. He’s the President. It’s a fait accompli. How do you get him out of office? I suppose Congress could impeach him but they wouldn’t.

I suppose you could sue, but that lawsuit could be tied up in court from now until the cows come home by virtue of arguments and appeals over whether he was born American anyway, due to his mother, or de facto recognition, blah blah blah.
