# Natural caves on the Moon

Story [here](http://www.salon.com/2014/07/18/nasa_believes_caves_on_the_moon_could_shelter_astronauts/). They were recently discovered by the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter. Scientists aren’t sure how they were formed, but believe they could provide safe shelter for astronauts.

I like the idea that human habitation on the Moon could start with cavemen.

NASA calls them Lunar Pits.

I had a case of Lunar Pits when I was a teen. Thankfully it all cleared up in early adulthood.
