We’re putting requests for medical anecdotes and advice in IMHO these days, so I’ll move this thither.

> Soy, black cohosh (which is what Remifemin is) and licorice (watch it with the licorice at large quantities if there’s high blood pressure or kidney disease in your history or family) are the most oft’ consumed herbals for peri/menopausal women these days. I’ve had clients where they helped, and clients where they didn’t, same as HRT.\<snip\>

Not to mention the benefits of placebo effect - if you believe soy and licorice are helping you, they probably are (plus, soy and licorice are pretty easy to add to your diet).

I’d been on the pill for years (for cramps). Stopped in Sept. no period since but I forget everything! I go downstairs to get my brownies, wonder where they disappeared to, and go back up and see I’d brought them up recently. Its scary.
I will have to try licorice and get back to drinking soy.
I’m already on medication for hypothyroid and thats taken care of.
I am wondering if I should try hrt.

My ob/gyn recommended HRT to me. My mother was on it for a good many years, and I swear it was one of the things that caused her dementia (I can’t cite now, but there are studies out there pointing to this). So, um…NO FRAKIN’ WAY. I’ll take the discomfort and leave my mind intact, thank you.
