My husband smoked for something like 20 years. He was constantly flicking his ashes out the window in a moving car. Several times, a live coal landed in the back seat of our car. It’s a darned dangerous habit. He’s since quit smoking. And yeah, this was a case of karma, I’d say. I don’t know how many times a flicked cigarette has caused a wildfire, it’s about time that one caused a fire in the flicker’s vehicle. ---

This story is smirk enducing to me since I’ve grown up in the same area long enough to see hunting grounds for turtles, lizards, snakes, and other pets, turn into complete dumps. Still, I’d much rather read a story about the lady who littered at Silver Springs while staring at the giraffs. Real smart lady, pay good hard money to look at a peice of land that hasn’t been littered and polluted to Valhalla…just so you can dump crap all over the place. I hope the giraffs lick your head off next time you visit. ---

I’d be pretty surprised if the Expedition didn’t have ashtrays. Most people who do this say they don’t want ashes messying their precious little cars. Can’t laugh enough at this moron. ---

Expeditions and Navigators, like most current models, don’t come equipped with ashtrays and lighters as standard equipment. They’re available as the “smoking package” option, which is just the dealer jacking a lighter into an available powerpoint and putting an ashtray in, but they aren’t standard equipment. Just sayin’ ---

Heh. I don’t smoke anymore - and certainly not in any car - but I got my comeuppance back when I did. I decided I’d toss the cigarette out the window. SLAM! Too bad my brain had died, and I didn’t notice the window wasn’t opened. I whammed my hand against the window, burnt my finger, and had to scramble about for the cigarette (I wasn’t driving). Another time, my friend threw his cigarette out the windw - or he tried to, or it came back in, or SOMETHING, because it ended up in between my shirt and my back. Somehow. We didn’t even realize it till I felt the _burning_. So, yeah. People who try to toss cigarettes out of cars are stupid. ---

These days, some cars don’t even offer the “smoking package” option. So what is a smoker supposed to do then? After all, something like 25% of the adult (and car-buying) population smokes, so why not leave well enough alone? It’s not like the presence of a car ashtray hurts a non-smoking owner or passenger, for heaven’s sake. From my experience, most people use it to hold change, candy, gum, etc. Sorry, but anti-smoking zealots get on my last nerve. I need a cigarette. ---

The weekend (literally) before the Cerro Grande fire at Bandelier, I was going up there on a trip. Now, anyone–except for the idiot in front of me–could tell that there was a definite fire danger. I mean, there was a major drought, there were signs saying “Fire Danger EXTREME”, the trees weren’t looking all that great, and so on. So what does this idiot do?
