# Navy buying Xbox 360 sex assault simulator

The Navy is using Xbox 360 Kinect to act out sex assault scenarios for training. Way to throw money away on random shit just to say you’re doing something. How about personal accountability? Or maybe a few of our flag officers can stop bending over for the media and congress and pretending like the military is wall to wall full of rapists. Absolutely asinine what the DoD will do to show action.

Guess what motherfuckers? Every male military member isn’t a rapist. We aren’t trying to rape you. The “training” barrage we are being inundated with spends the majority of the time telling female members to watch the fuck out for male members because we’re going to try to rape you. This shit is really starting to reach the point of being directly insulting to males in the military. I’d bet on there being a backlash some time soon. Hopefully some flag officer will say “Wait a fucking minute, yeah sex assault is a problem but it’s not a military specific problem. So stop treating us all like rapists”
It’s no worse in the military than it is in the civilian world. It’s just much more advertised.

It’s just a way the Navy people found to buy a bunch of the XBox 360 systems for their service personnel’s recreation. Reminds me of that M_A_S\*H thing -

I’d like to know the stats on military sexual assault before I judge. I’d also like to know the effectiveness of simulated scenarios in deterring it, but I’m not sure such a statistic exists.

Here’s one problem with the OP’s rant. Most rapists are serial rapists. If 1/4 women in the military are being assaulted, it doesn’t mean 1 out of 4 military men are committing assault. Check out [this study](http://www.wcsap.org/sites/www.wcsap.org/files/uploads/webinars/SV%20on%20Campus/Repeat%20Rape.pdf), or this [summary](http://yesmeansyesblog.wordpress.com/2009/11/12/meet-the-predators/). Men already outnumber women ([~15% female in 2011)](http://www.statisticbrain.com/demographics-of-active-duty-u-s-military/). So if just 5% of males in the military committed 3 assaults each, that would be could be 100% of all females. It isn’t that high, but there are also women who are assaulted more than once.
The other problem with OP’s rant is a common one. The OP feels it is unfair to treat him like a rapist. Well guess what? Women in the military think is unfair to them that not only are they at high risk of being raped or assaulted, but reporting it is more likely to see them forced out than the perpetrator punished.

OK, but isn’t the military supposed to be the guys we trust with big mother fuckin’ guns because we rely on them to protect us?
The military is supposed to be held to a much higher standard. The fact that they don’t rape any more than the general population is not a good argument at all.
We depend on the military to show uncommon valor, bravery, honor and restraint. You’re supposed to be the few, the brave, the proud - not “hell we’re just a bunch of swingin’ dicks, and sure, every once in a while we get our rape on!”

Sexually related crimes are currently a huge problem in the military. I’m not sure that Xbox is the most effective solution, but it is good that they are confronting the problem.

From the Justice department and DoD, by way of [here](http://www.npr.org/2013/03/21/174840895/sexual-violence-victims-say-military-justice-system-is-broken) and [here](http://www.rainn.org/statistics).
Annual Sexual Assault Estimates:
Nationwide = 207,754 (ages 12 and older)
Military = 19,000
% of Sexual Assaults NOT Reported:
Nationwide = 54%
Military = 94.2%
I’d say it’s worse in the military. If I were the OP, I’d spend more time worrying about victims of sexual assault rather than men forced to play educational video games.
