I’m surprised that there’s been no comments. Good win for the home team tonight, Nate really sparked the push that won the game. Kobe continues to amaze, particularly with his ability to consistently elevate on his jumper from anywhere on the floor and drain.
Sorry, too busy drowning my sorrows in soda to post
Come on Lakers! Win on Sunday! Destroy Boston!
Ha!! All good YogSosoth. If Bynum is not at full strength, I think the Lakers chances diminish a bit - he’s been a real difference maker in my opinion, rebounding, tough d, eating up space in the lane.
Good game tonite (Sunday).
Bryant was amazing, hitting insanely difficult shots time after time. But better team play won the day for Boston.
As always, Pierce looked like an out of shape klutz, but his shots kept falling.
It was nice that the play that put the game out of reach was a high-light reel shot… Pierce passing as he fell backwards and Rondo making the layup when his body seemed to have already flown past the backboard.
Good game. I don’t have a clue who will win the series.
A klutz? I don’t see that at all Baal - Paul Pierce is no Billy Paultz; I think that he’s got beautiful form on his shot.
Tonight’s game featured a prime example of why I can’t stand Phil Jackson, when one of the Laker’s timeouts was replayed and his comments to his players were solely about Boston’s losing games in the 4th quarter.
If Ray Allen can rediscover his shot, I think that the Celtics will win the next game.
Bynum’s been a disappointment, imho. I watched him since his rookie year, and they basically brought him in to be the next Shaq. Another disappointment has been Odom. I remember him being a huge move (part of the Shaq deal, iirc,) and he’s been terrible ever since. It’s ridiculous about the number of pieces the Lakers keep getting, and they continue to struggle to win without Shaq. Gasol, Artest, and Fisher were basically free. Bynum was a draft pick.
My feelings are neutral about the Lakers, but I hate kobe. The kid is talented, but he continues to be a selfish, immature brat year in and year out.
1996: Waah, I wanna play for the lakers, not the stinky ol’ hornets!
2002: Waah, I don’t need Shaq to win, trade him!
2003-2008: Waah! I need help, why don’t you guys bring in some players!
2009: Thanks to me, we won.
2010: Waah, we lost! Why didn’t my team step up!!
Boston might get some bulletin board material from that, but it doesn’t seem like a bad thing to say. It’s just a way of telling his team not to give up.
I don’t like the idea of instant total access: cameras in the locker room at halftime, cameras listening in during time-outs.Unless players are heard calling the other team cumstains, then it’s just part of the Disneyifaction of pro sports.
Inevitable, maybe, but I don’t approve.
In the post game press conference, Paul Pierce was asked about that comment. His response was basically “Phil is right, we did lose a lot of games in the 4th quarter during the regular season. He’s doing exactly what a coach should do.”
I saw that Pierce presser; my anti Phil bias probably had an influence on my knee jerk reponse. I still can’t stand him, though.
I’m in mourning…
I think the Celtics are a mortal lock to have about 40 personal fouls called against them in game 6. Hell, Stern might pull Tim Donaghy out of retirement to work the game.
Yup, at a minimum, Bill Kennedy is going to get the call, along with a couple of the poorer refs who get more easily swayed by the home crowd.
What’s funny to me about the brouhaha over the Phil comments is exactly this: during the regular season. The Boston Celtics of the regular season are a different team than the Boston Celtics in the 2010 playoffs. Its almost night and day.
I’d like to go on record in predicting that either Perkins or Garnett (possibly both) get called for 2 fouls early in the game, relegating them to the bench.
Actually only about half that (21). Lakers 17. And Boston converts only 60% of their FT’s.
Celtics shot 33% from the field and its the ref’s fault they lost?
Only 67 points at the end of the third quarter? No, no, that’s how many they scored for the entire game
Those darn ref’s!!!
A related question to Mangosteen’s rant: why don’t either of these teams attempt any fast breaks? The 80’s version of this rivalry was one of the most compelling matchups in hoops history, constant end-to-end action. I tried watching the 4th Q of game 4 the other night, and it just about put me to sleep. None of the forwards would attempt to pass the back upcourt quickly after a defensive rebound, as in they apparently not even dared to consider the possibility, invariably flipping it to a nearby guard who would slowly walk it up the court. Are guards so bloody conservative when in the offensive end anymore (as in, by the time the ball bounces off the boards they are already camped underneath their own basket at the other end)-well, if that works so well, why did it take someone like Coach Daly of the Pistons in the late 80’s to figure that out, after 30+ years of fast breaking offenses galore?
I’m not that surprised by last night’s blowout. I think we all knew this one was going seven.
It’s difficult not to speculate on teams deliberately playing poorly in order to boost ratings for a game seven. There was some serious screwing of the pooch in this yawner.
Except the players don’t care about the ratings, and only one of the teams would have had a so-called incentive to play poorly.
Yeah i thought the Celtics were going to get beat on the first round by Miami with the way they played the whole second half of the season. They did start something like 26-5 though.
