Did anyone else find Artest’s postgame interviews to be strangely touching?
You mean when he apologized to his Pacers teammates? Yeah, I thought that was surprisingly human of him, and uncharacteristic in a good way, not just because it’s Artest, but you hardly ever see a pro athlete apologize for anything sincerely.
There’s an article somewhere, I think it was on one of the Boston Celtics blogs, where the writer spews his/her hatred of Artest because he blames him for killing Indiana basketball. He was a little surrpised and taken back by Artest’s apology, but didn’t forgive him. It probably bothers a lot of people in Indiana that Artest is a champion now
That, including the rest of his interviews, should be archived as part of this memorable game 7. Anytime they replay this game, they HAVE to replay the interview. Greatest postgame interview ever!
There was that, but also how many times he thanked his psychiatrist for all of her help. About how he hasn’t done well in certain situations and she helped him get through that. He openly admits his problems and that he needed help for them, and I think it’s really cool.
I also loved when he was talking about that 3 pointer he made late in the game. “Kobe passed me the ball! Kobe never passed me the ball! And I could hear Phil Jackson - he doesn’t need a microphone, he’s the zen master so you can just hear him in your head - saying “don’t shoot don’t shoot!” And bam! I shot it”
Cracked me the hell up.
I like when he said “What you staring at daughter?” I could just see him referring to her like that as if it was normal, or calling his dog “Dog”. They should interview him more, before, after, and during games
