Did you realize that the SDMB was hopelessly lefty when you joined? Almost twenty years ago, now. So, when did you catch on?
Was it an “outreach” effort, change minds, make converts? How’s that been going for you?
Two pints:

Making this thread about Bricker is off topic and counter-productive. Just argue the points of the discussion and leave the personal remarks for a different forum.
-
No one has any obligation to provide personal feelings or opinions simply because another poster requests or demands them. Repeatedly seeking those views when a poster has already declined to provide them will be deemed harassment (as such actions have been regarded in the past) and are subject to Warnings.

Can I have two pints, too?
What? Oh never mind.
You can have all the pints that you can afford. Make mine imperial stout.
Why don’t you tell us? After all, that attitude is wholly owned by the GOP.
As it turns out, the districts will not be re-drawn in any fashion for the 2018 elections. The three-judge panel decided there wasn’t time to do it without creating chaos.
And by 2020, the issue will be settled by the Supreme Court, either by denying cert and letting the redraw mandate stand, or by granting cert and reversing.
Good. I accept either outcome with aplomb.
Well, gosh, what about the sacred value of voter confidence? Used to be your lodestone and guiding light, as I recall. Ya think maybe it is good for voter confidence when the legislature conspires against the other party? Or is there a valid neutral justification for cheating?
ICE is requesting millions of documents from North Carolina voting records, looking for all those illegal alien voters.
but in good news, the GOP can no longer override a Cooper veto without getting some Dem support.
What I’m not clear on: are we doomed to live under this insanely unfair plan for another two years, or is there a possibility of a special election in 2019 under new district lines? Given the egregious outcome here, in which the majority of voters will receive 25% of the representation in these districts, I think the earliest possible remedy should be imposed.
I think a vote in 2019 is not likely but it’s up to the judges. Also the other good news is the 2 worst ammendments went down in flames by wide margins.
Yes, this! And hopefully the districts will be redrawn sooner rather than later - but that’s better than not at all.
the 2 NC amendments that failed were the only 2 that really had people campaigning for no votes.
I am not surprised the other 4 passed easily because with these kinds of things most people vote yes unless they have a good reason to vote no.
I doubt seriously there will be a special election. The best that can be hoped for is that the District Court’s decision is not overturned and that new districts are in place in 2020.
I certainly wouldn’t bet money on it–but these outrageous results are the result of deliberate Republican foot-dragging on fixing their unconstitutional maps. They shouldn’t be rewarded for their illegal actions, and the rest of us shouldn’t be punished for them.
The NAACP has made the case before that a government elected according to unconstitutional maps is unconstitutional, and that it needs to be remedied ASAP; I think it likely they’ll continue to push this case.
And you lose all the shots you don’t take.
