NCAA BB Tourney: How many undeserved bids?

From a power conference standpoint (I went to Illinois), I don’t know about “particularly special”, but it’s still something. In a typical year five or six Big Ten teams might get in, so at least you finished in the top half of the conference, probably had a winning record in conference, and won at least 18 to 20 games overall. You feel like you had a somewhat successful season, even if you get flushed in the first round.

With 128 teams, forget it–from the power conferences, almost everybody is in, and if everybody is special, then no one is special.

Basketball is the best sport for letting everybody in. It has upsets throughout the year. No.1s get knocked off weekly. A hot shooting team can always be a threat. Two really good players and 3 players that don’t suck can win.
