Some neat (I think, anyway) little parallels (coincidences, really) about May 7, my birthday. Add your own. 1429: Joan of Arc ends the siege of Orleans. 1718: The city of New Orleans is founded. 1915: WWI: A German U-boat sinks the _Lusitania_. 1945: WWII: Germany officially surrenders. ---

There seemed to be a lot for my birthday. March 3rd: 1915 – NACA, the predecessor of NASA, is founded. 1923 – TIME magazine is published for the first time. 1931 – The United States adopts “The Star-Spangled Banner” as its national anthem. 1938 – Oil is discovered in Saudi Arabia. 1951 – Jackie Brenston, with Ike Turner and his band, records “Rocket 88”, often cited as “the first rock and roll record”. 2005 – Steve Fossett becomes the first person to fly an airplane non-stop around the world solo without refueling. ---

Margaret Dumont died on my birthday in 1965. 🙂 Besides that, the most notable historical parallel for my birthday was that the Missouri Compromise was signed on my birthday in 1820, and the Supreme Court handed down its decision in the Dred Scott case on my birthday in 1857. Not exactly a day to celebrate, huh? And that was hardly the only bad shit that happened on my birthday: the Alamo was overrun (1836), and the infamous First Fleet landed at Norfolk Island in the Southern Ocean to set up a prison colony (1788). ---

[HistoryOrb.com](http://HistoryOrb.com) tells me I was born on the anniversary of the 10th recorded perihelion passage of Halley’s Comet in AD 451 and of the first recorded UFO sighting in 1947, of flying saucers over Mount Rainier (that one I already knew). ---
