I’m into the fifth season of _Psych_ and totally digging it. (Watched the tap-dancing episode last night – yowza, Dule Hill really can dance!)

Thanks to all who recommended it.

Geez, I’m on about the 4th episode of the first season (but I think I’ve watched the whole thing twice, so I’m okay with that).

If you’re a Twin Peaks fan, there’s an episode called Dual Spires where they do a Twin Peaks type episode and bring back (IIRC) 6 of the Twin Peaks cast members that all play different characters from the original show.

> Just started the third season, in the first episode of which we meet Shawn’s mom. Who is blond. As is his father. And yet Shawn has brown hair. Didn’t anyone stay awake long enough in eight-grade science to know that if both parents have a recessive trait, the child has to as well? I call shenanigans. Unless we find out that Shawn’s dad isn’t his dad.

> It’s not impossible for two brunets to have a blond child – they could each have a recessive gene. Vice versa isn’t possible.

This is a common misconception. Two blond parents can have a child with brown hair. Two blue eyed parents can have a child with brown eyes as well.

I’m not a biologist, but from what I understand as a layman the factors that determine hair color are a bit more complex than the Punnett squares we learned in high school.

Some relevant links about hair and eye color:

Huh, you mean not everything I learned in science class 45 years ago is strictly correct? Go figure.

Just finished Season Five – great cliffhanger:

Lassie realizing that Shawn and Juliet are together

Since I was never a _Twin Peaks_ fan, though, the Dual Spires ep didn’t do anything for me.

One of my favorite network shows is _Parenthood_, which even features the actor who played Lorelei on _Gilmore Girls_ as one of the prominent characters. And Netflix does have the first three seasons available for streaming.

> I’m only a couple episodes into the second season but it seems to do OK. Jack Klugman’s Quincy is very much like a well-adjusted Adrian Monk with a medical degree.

A favorite gag on _Gilmore Girls_ was Lorelai recommending _CSI_ to Emily, who said she didn’t care for the new trend of MEs and such on tv. They later flash back to Lorelai, 17 and pregnant, watching _Quincy, ME_ 20 years before. 🙂

As for my recs - \*Pushing Daisies \*and _Wonderfalls_ are great, but PD was dropped from Netflix (it’s still on Amazon Prime, if you have it) and _Wonderfalls_ has never been available for streaming, as far as I know; glad I’ve got the DVDs.

The BBC’s _Robin Hood_ is available, and pretty light.

I’m currently watching _Murdoch Mysteries_, a great period procedural show from Canada, sort of like _Copper_ or _Ripper Street_, only much much lighter and more fun. I completely adore it.

I have no idea if it’s available on whatever service you use. Where I live there aren’t any such services at all, so I must use alternative means (DVDs usually, but not always).

> I’ve got plenty of Great Dramas in my Netflix queue – _Top of the Lake, Ripper Street, Orange Is the New Black_ – but sometimes I just want to veg and be entertained. Think chick flicks in serial form. I’ve liked _Gilmore Girls_ and _Veronica Mars_, plus British period pieces like _Cranford, Lark Rise to Candleford, House of Elliot_. Or non-period, like _Doc Martin_. Recently watched _Drop Dead Diva_, which is a wee bit stupider than I prefer.

> What do you recommend?

_Scott and Bailey_ should fit the bill.
