Oh, and a 6 is for a major triad – a 13 needs a _minor_ seven. That is all. Just the usual terminology I’m familar with. I’d never add a Maj7 to a 6 chord (even though it’s implied) – look at the original sheet of “Cherokee” or something – all x6 chords iirc.

Right - in practice you won’t see 11 used much on major or dominant chords because of the clash between the 3rd and the 4th/11th…take the major third out and you’re left with a sus4 type chord.

So long as you don’t call the 11 an “avoid note,” I’m 100% on board. Actually, it’s nice to hear somebody agree with me for once, especially when I can’t muscle them into agreeing with me “or else!” I kid! I’m kidding!

Hey, man, you started by freakin’ _my_ shit out! I was just following up on what you said! And ETA I wasn’t kidding about keyboardists muscling in – we’re the one’s who got to carry all the heavy shit, and (9/10) the PA too. 😉

This time I’m in the wrong about the open - C tuning, but next time it’ll be a bass player (as a Hammond-player, I think of them as tambourine-players, but whatevs). That’s why I like this forum – lots of different kinds of instrumentalists and lots of better musicians than I’ll ever be weighing in. Not you, though _WordMan_ – I got my eye open for you!

Why not do a PDX doper hang – I can’t bring my shit in a backpack, but I can hang just having fun?

> Open C tuning is an open tuning for guitar. The open-string notes form a C major chord, which is the triad (C,E,G) having the root note C, the major third (C,E), and the perfect fifth (C,G). When the guitar is strummed without fretting any strings, a C-major chord is sounded. By barring all of the strings for one fret (from one to eleven), one finger suffices to fret the other eleven major-chords.

> Well, I can’t link to the tab online, but John Fahey had a number of tunes in Open C. You’ll have to find a copy of his book, _Best of John Fahey 1959 - 1977_, and then find a copy of the album that goes with it. The book has note-for-note tab of all tunes on the album. You maybe don’t need the album – some people have recorded his tunes and put them on Youtube.
>
> Just a note: Fahey recorded a very wide range of stuff, and was a major league contrarian, doing everything he could to piss people off. You might do a search on him and turn up all sorts of stuff that you don’t like. Persevere a little. If you like picking tunes, he’s got some really nifty traditional ones in dropped D and open C. He’s got one tune – I don’t remember the name – that’s a C unison or “drone” tune. He’s got about four or five of the strings tuned to a C. Great tune. Just roars at a few points.

I highly recommend the book too if you can find it. You might be able to figure out Sunflower River Blues just by watching the video.

Yep; it just plays to the old-but-often-true bromide about keyboardists being better grounded in theory vs. Guitarists esp self-taught ones like me. Folks like Le Ministre, zombywoof and CookingWithGas know their theory stuff here…

Also, [Texas Lemon Flavor](http://www.amazon.com/Texas-Lemon-Flavor/dp/B000S4JDPQ) (might be worth your 99 cents 😃 )

I know there’s a tab in a Stefan Grossman book, I just don’t know which one (and my fingerpicking books are two hours away).

Oh, I thought the thread title was **_Naked_ Acoustic Guitar Instrumentals in Open C**. I see now that I was mistaken.

Carry on.
