Have each team come up with a haiku about some innocuous theme? Three lines shouldn’t take too terribly long.
Some version of Mad Libs, where each team contributes a key word or two?

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Ended up going with the “one word at a time” story game, where each participant takes it in turns to contribute one word at a time to a fictional, made-up-on-the-spot story. It went pretty well, drew quite a few laughs.
Actually I just came across a fertile field for “team building exercises” and “party games.” For the first time I caught an episode of Minute to Win It and the games look really clever. No flash equipment required and fun to play or watch.
