Sorry but after I got home I crashed - was just to tired to keep my eyes open. So yes it sems it was a cyst. 6 stiches later and I’ve learned it’s a really bad idea to use a steak knife to open a package of lunch meat. It’s really gross - both the cyst and the cut - I’m an idiot :rolleyes: ---

Glad you’re okay. My rule of thumb (heh) is: any fairly deep cut on the hand or the face = doctor or ER. Otherwise, I’m willing to bandage or use the little Dermabond I have left from my days as a nurse tech (read: housekeeper/patient-fetcher) in surgery. ---

dull knifes are dangerous. table knives cut cooked food OK. keep a utility knife, full sized and mini, metal or plastic (they come in yellow and green) handle for package opening. ---

When I was about 2 or 3 yoa I pulled up a handful of grass to feed our caged rabbits. I guess we used them as food. Well, I stuck my little hand full of grass through the chicken wire cage and when the grass was gone a rabbit just chewed my index finger. I can remember this vividly. I just stood there screaming until my mom and older brother pulled my hand out. Off to the hospital in a taxi we went. There was nothing to do except a butterfly bandage. Finger healed but had a large knot ,missing part of fingernail and is about a half inch shorter that other index finger. Fast forward to when I was 17 yoa, a senior in hs, the damn thing festered up, got sore and red and one day popped releasing loads of pus, blood , pain and probably little shards of bone. Now I have a little hole where all that came out and a piece of what I can only figure to be fingernail grows out of it. I keep it clipped short or sometimes let it grow long enough to get a grip on it with my teeth and pull very hard until the whole thing comes out with root and all. But it still grows back only takes longer. During my teen years I was very embarrassed about the ugly knot on my finger and kept a bandaid on it most of the time. Your story is the only similar one I’ve heard of. ---
