What’s the matter with _The End of the World_? You might think it’s not really about the world ending, but Skeeter Davis did die a few years ago.

That’s got to count for _something_.

I love the whole “Michael Stipe thinks he can sing quickly?” mentality in that version.

I nominate “Silo Lullaby” by Toad the Wet Sprocket

A song or two from Wim Wender’s [Until the End of the World](http://www.amazon.com/Until-End-World-Picture-Soundtrack/dp/B000002LQZ) might help.

I’ve had a look at the lyrics and I don’t see it. They’re departing the earth, heading ‘lightyears’ to Venus, and they’re counting down to it. 🙂

> It seems that of all the songs mentioned so far, the least “hip”, most minimalist apocalyptic themed would have to be “End of the World” by Skeeter Davis.

The world ending is a desirable alternative to having to listen to Skeeter Davis.

Despite the lyric, “live while the whole world dies,” I don’t think this qualifies.
In “Aenema,” only the west coast of the USA ends.

I can’t believe I have one that no one else has - and the best also.

[Talkin’ World War III Blues](http://www.bobdylan.com/#/songs/talkin-world-war-iii-blues) by Bob Dylan. Every WW III cliche neatly disposed of, one verse each.

Howzabout “[Morning Dew](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morning_Dew)”, (is the Grateful Dead’s version the most popular)?

\*Where have all the people gone my honey,
Where have all the people gone today.
There’s no need for you to be
worrying about all those people,
You never see those people anyway.
\*

Zombie apocalypse: [re:Your Brains](http://www.jonathancoulton.com/songdetails/Re%20Your%20Brains)
